AKB48 adalah idol group asal Jepang yang memiliki konsep “idola yang dapat anda temui setiap hari”. Grup ini dibentuk pada tahun 2005 oleh seorang produser dan penulis lirik terkenal bernama Akimoto Yasushi, dan tampil setiap hari di sebuah teater di kawasan Akihabara, Tokyo. Mereka dikenal sebagai grup pop yang memiliki anggota terbanyak di dunia. Anggota AKB48 dibagi menjadi tiga tim resmi, yaitu Shinoda Team A, Oshima Team K, dan Umeda Team B. Saat ini AKB48 telah menjadi fenomena sosial baru dan dijuluki sebagai “idola nasional Jepang”. Hingga tahun 2013, mereka telah menjual single maupun albumnya lebih dari 22 juta keping. Sampai saat ini masih banyak para penikmat musik Jepang yang belum mengetahui alasan mengapa AKB48 memiliki popularitas yang sangat besar seperti saat ini. Menurut hasil pengolahan data, rahasia popularitas AKB48 ada tiga, yaitu keunikan konsep AKB48, diselenggarakannya acara senbatsu sousenkyo, dan keistimewaan setiap single maupun album AKB48 yang dirilis.
