TINDAK TUTUR MENGUNDANG DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS

Tesis ini mengkaji tentang kompetensi penutur bahasa Inggris dalam menyampaikan maksud mengundang secara lisan dalam bahasa Inggris. Setiap bahasa berbeda dalam merealisasikan tindak tutur, begitupun penutur bahasa Inggris dalam merealisasikan tindak tutur mengundang. Perbedaan tersebut muncul sesuai konteks situasi tuturan yang dapat diukur melalui dimensi sosial. Untuk itu, penelitian ini mengkaji tentang bagaimana realisasi tindak tutur mengundang bahasa Inggris, bagaimana jenis tindak tutur mengundang bahasa Inggris, serta bagaimana dimensi sosial mempengaruhi realisasi tindak tutur mengundang bahasa Inggris. Beberapa metode digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Dalam mengumpulkan data digunakan teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan Tes Melengkapi Wacana. Dalam menganalisis data digunakan metode padan pragmatis. Kemudian dalam penyajian hasil analisis data digunakan metode penyajian secara informal. Penelitian ini memunculkan beberapa hasil penelitian. Diantaranya yaitu menurut panjang-pendeknya tindak tutur, tindak tutur mengundang dalam bahasa Inggris kurang lebih dapat direalisasikan dengan satu sampai enam tindak tutur. Menurut jenisnya, tindak tutur mengundang bahasa Inggris terdiri dari tindak tutur langsung, tindak tutur tidak langsung, dan tindak tutur literal. Kemudian, skala jarak sosial, skala status, dan skala formalitas sangat mempengaruhi realisasi tindak tutur mengundang dalam bahasa Inggris berdasarkan prinsip kesopanan yang digunakan oleh tiap penutur yang disesuaikan dengan konteks situasi tuturan. Berdasarkan tingkat kesopanannya, kurang lebih terdapat empat strategi dalam tindak tutur mengundang bahasa Inggris. Strategi 1, digunakan kepada lawan tutur yang akrab dengan status setara atau lebih rendah dari penutur, direalisasikan dengan tuturan Come to my party!; strategi 2, digunakan kepada teman akrab dengan tingkat kesopanan lebih sopan dari pada strategi 1, direalisasikan dengan tuturan Do you guys want to come to my party? atau I would love for you all to come; strategi 3, digunakan kepada orang yang belum dikenal, direalisasikan dengan tuturan We would like to invite you to attend to our event; serta strategi 4, untuk orang yang berstatus sosial lebih tinggi, direalisasikan dengan tuturan I was wondering if you would be willing to come to our event.

This thesis examines the competence of native speaker English when utter a speech act of invitation orally in English. Every language is different in the realization of speech acts, as well as English speakers in the realization of speech acts of invitation. The differences arise in situational speech context which can be measured through social dimension. Therefore, this study examines how the realization of speech acts of invitation in English, what kinds of speech acts of invitation in English, and how social dimensions affect the realization of speech acts of invitation in English. Some methods used in this study. In collecting the data, the researcher used Discourse Completion Test. In analyzing the data the researcher used pragmatic identity method. In presenting the result of data analysis, the researcher used an informal method of presentation. This study finds several results. First, according to the length of the speech act, speech acts of invitation in English can be realized with about one to six speech acts. Second, according to the kinds of speech acts, speech acts of invitation in English consists of direct speech acts, indirect speech acts, and literal speech acts. Third, the social distance scale, status scale, and formality scale affect the realization of speech acts of invitation in English based on politeness principle used by each speaker appropriate with the context of the speech situation. The last, based on the level of politeness, there are about four strategies in speech acts of invitation in English. Strategy 1, used to intimate friends, realized with Come to my party!; strategy 2, used to intimate friends with higher level of politeness than strategy 1, realized with utterances Do you guys want to come to my party? or I would love for you all to come; strategy 3, used to someone who are not too familiar, realized with We would like to invite you attend to our event; and strategy 4, for the higher social status, realized by the utterance I was wondering if you would be willing to come to our event.
