The capital market holds a crucial role in the economy of a country, especially as a leading indicator of the economic system. A good development of the capital market through the increase of the stock exchange index could be an indicator of a successful economic development in a country. For a large country like Indonesia, the capital market is expected to be a good investment alternative. The globalization and conglomeration of various financial institutions has increased the complexity of stock exchanges, and has united many of those around the world which makes capital market no longer a mere domestic activity. Other than that, the developments of more new sophisticated and hybrid financial products has further increased complexity in the field of capital market. In facing such complexity and in anticipating the effects of global monetary crisis, reforming the system of capital market supervision has become a necessity. In Indonesia, reforming the supervision system of the capital market is done through the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (Financial Service Authority, or OJK) as a supervising body replacing the Badan Pengawas Pasar Modal (Capital Market Supervising Body, or BAPEPAM). The supervision system, both under BAPEPAM or OJK, is not intended to only create a stable and globally competitive national economy, but also to provide legal protection towards the investors and the society.
