Recent issue of Indonesian heritage conservation is empowering the local residents for their participation in government’s program of heritage conservation. In many cases, there are many threats upon the heritage conservation program that is caused by unavailable local resident’s participation. Concerning to heritage conservation of Trowulan Site-Mojokerto-East Java, this program aims to tackle the various threats upon the conserved sites, such as illegal trading, land uses, and other harm activities done by the local residents. From the view of the Conservation Bureau, the success of Trowulan heritage conservation requires broad participation of local resident in two concentrated areas that are centre and peripheral. For participation, many reports indicate that attribute-attitude may direct their participation. Therefore, it is important to investigate the relation of attribute-attitude and their participation. The attitudes of local resident consist of curiosity, understanding, willingness, interest and awareness. The attributes are age, education, gender, distance from resident’s houses to the conserved object and duration of living. This research tries to figure actual relation between attribute-attitude and the local resident participation for the improvement of local resident participation in Trowulan heritage conservation. Therefore, this research is done by; 1. Clarifying the relation between the local resident’s attribute-attitude and their participation of the conservation program for each location, 2. Investigating the differences and similarities upon the relation of local resident’s attribute-attitude and their participation between two locations, and 3. Investigating the important attributes and attitude to improve their participation from the two locations.
