Human Resource Roles in Implementing Responsible Leadership at PT Bukit Asam Tbk

Responsible leadership dapat dilihat dari strategi dan kegiatan CSR perusahaan. Ada banyak perusahaan yang menggunakan kesinambungan atau CSR sebagai strategi perusahaannya. Sementara itu, telah ada perkembangan dalam fungsi sumber daya manusia, salah satunya adalah sebagai partner strategi (Ulrich, 1997). Ketika ahli sumber daya manusia di perusahaan bekerja sebagai partner strategi, maka mereka bekerjasama dengan manager lain untuk mengelola proses untuk memenuhi permintaan bisnis. Oleh karena itu, sangat pentng bagi sebuah perusahaan untuk menciptakan interaksi antara kebijakan sumber daya manusia dengan strategi CSR. Untuk menjadi responsible leader, sebuah perusahaan membutuhkan kontribusi sumber daya manusia (Strandberg, 2009; Noel, 2002; Wintenberg; 2010, Gond et al., 2011; Sroufe, Lebowitz and Sivasubramaniam 2010; and Lam and Khare, 2010). Penelitian ini mengevaluasi kontribusi sumber daya manusia terhadap responsible leadership di PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA). Peneliti tertarik untuk menganalisis komitmen dari perusahaan untuk menjadi responsible leader. Evaluasi dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan pedoman Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) dan adaptasi dari penelitian dari studi sebelumnya mengenai peran sumber daya manusia dalam implementasi responsible leadership (Lam and Khare,2010 and Gond et al., 2011). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PTBA telah menunjukkan strategi managemen yang komprehensif dengan setiap pemangku kepentingan. Divisi sumber daya manusia di PTBA berperan dalam berbagai hal dalam implementasi responsible leadership di PTBA. Level integrasi antara sumber daya manusia dan CSR adalah HR-CSR Good Performer.
There are more corporations seek to consolidate their position in the emerging fields of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. These corporations are striving to be responsible leaders by increasing their role in achieving sustainability goals. Responsible leadership can be seen from company‘s CSR strategy and activities. There are even more companies which use sustainability or CSR in its corporate strategy. In the other hand, there has been development in human resources (HR) function, one of which is being strategic partner (Ulrich, 1997). When HR professionals work as strategic partners, they work with line managers to institute and manage process that creates an organization to meet business requirements. Therefore, it is important for a company to align its HR policies and practices to its CSR or sustainability strategy. In order to become responsible leader, a company needs HR contribution (Strandberg, 2009; Noel, 2002; Wintenberg; 2010, Gond et al., 2011; Sroufe, Lebowitz and Sivasubramaniam 2010; and Lam and Khare, 2010). This research evaluates contribution of human resource to responsible leadership in PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA). Researcher is interested to analyze whether commitment of the company in order to be responsible leader is contributed by its human resource division. The evaluation is carried out by using Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines and adaptation of research from previous study about HR roles in implementing responsible leadership (Lam and Khare,2010 and Gond et al., 2011). The findings shows that PTBA has maintained comprehensive management strategies with its stakeholders as responsible leader. Human resource division and officers in PT Bukit Asam Tbk play various roles in implementing responsible leadership in PTBA. There are several strong and also weak role were identified in the research. Integration level of HR to CSR strategies and practices is HR-CSR good performer.
