In recent years, ceramic membrane filtration for drinking water treatment has become an effective point of use technology in developing countries. This research have objective to develop and evaluate the performance of ceramic membrane filter in Yogyakarta. Several membrane compositions were made from Singkawang’s Clay and discarded pottery (grog), different amount of coconut fiber also added as combustible material. Membrane production process used traditional shaping technique and fired at 1005O C. Ceramic membrane filter material and filtered water were being investigated after filtration process. Filtered water quality was complying with Indonesia drinking water quality standard although it has low filtration rate (0,461 L/Hr). The most optimum ceramic membrane in turbidity and bacterial removal was variation number 10 {clay+coconut fiber 4,5%(w/w)+grog 5%(w/w)} that have average turbidity removal 88,2%, and average E. Coli removal 100%. N2 adsorptionDdesorption result on ceramic membrane show 0,04μm pore size, and 4,32m2 /g pore surface area.!The!result!from!the!XRD!(XDray!diffractometer)!indicates!crystal structure of calcite and quartz. Whereas micro’s photo using SEM (scanning electron microscopic) and TEM (transmitted electron microscopic) showed membrane surface consists of stacked aggregates, separated by more randomly oriented particles.
