PENGARUH BENTUK POSTERIOR PALATAL SEAL TERHADAP RETENSI BASIS GIGI TIRUAN LENGKAP RAHANG ATAS

Posterior palatal seal merupakan bagian dari gigi tiruan lengkap rahang atas yang berfungsi seperti katup/valve mencegah udara terjebak diantara permukaan basis gigi tiruan dengan mukosa jaringan pendukung sehinga terbentuk ruangan hampa udara. Terdapat beberapa bentuk posterior palatal seal yaitu butterfly, double bead dan single bead. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh bentuk posterior palatal seal terhadap retensi basis gigi tiruan lengkap rahang atas. Penelitian ini menggunakan 10 subjek dengan masing-masing subjek dibuatkan tiga gigi tiruan lengkap rahang atas dengan tiga bentuk posterior palatal seal yaitu butterfly, double bead, single bead. Setiap subjek diminta untuk memakai gigi tiruan lengkap rahang atas dengan tiga macam bentuk posterior palatal seal secara bergantian, kemudian dilakukan uji kekuatan retensi gigi tiruan dengan menggunakan alat tarik vertikal modifikasi Van Kampen dan dicatat berat beban yang meyebabkan terlepasnya gigi tiruan lengkap dari mukosa pendukungnya. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan Anava satu jalur dan dilanjutkan uji post hoc dengan LSD. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antara bentuk posterior palatal seal dengan retensi basis gigi tiruan lengkap rahang atas (p<0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah posterior palatal seal bentuk butterfly menghasilkan gigi tiruan rahang atas yang lebih retentif dibandingkan bentuk double bead dan single bead.

Posterior palatal seal is part of maxillary complete denture functioning as valveto prevent trapped air between the surfaces of base plate and supporting tissue of mucosa thus, it forms an airless chamber. There are therefore, several types of posterior palatal seal comprising of butterfly, double bead, and single bead. The aim of this research is to identify the impact of posterior palatal seal shape toward the retention of maxillary complete denture. Moreover, the research was conducted in 10 subjects, whereas each of it had been made maxillary complete denture with three shapes of them, they are: butterfly, double bead, and single bead. Each subject was requested interchangeably to used maxillary complete denture with three type of posterior palatal seal shapes, later on, it was conducted the retention complete denture of strength test Van Kampen modified – vertical stretch tool, and the weigthload was recorded causing the releasing of full denture out of its supporting mucosa. Eventually, the data resulted was analyzed with one way Anova and followed with post hoc test by LSD. The result showed that there was significant difference of the posterior palatal seal shape and the retention of maxillary complete denture (p < 0.05). In addition the butterfly shape of posterior palatal seal produces maxillary complete denture more retentive of complete denture rather than the double bead and single bead shape.
