The continuing growth of flight demands in Indonesia, the recent surge in fuel prices, require improvements in the efficiency of aircraft operations in all phases of flight (en route, arrival, approach and departure). Improved operational efficiency can be derived from the application of area navigation (RNAV) procedure in various regions worldwide and for all phases of flight. The research was conducted in Jakarta-Yogyakarta route represents the short distance and route from Jakarta to Ujung Pandang represent medium distance. Both routes are still using the conventional route according to flight plan from Lion Air. The analysis was done by calculating the distance the between the waypoints are traversed in a route That has been selected. This distance calculation using the Great Circle Distance formula (assuming the Earth is round). Implementation RNAV5 conducted on two routes resulted in shortening the flight distance. Route shortening effect on travel time and fuel consumption resulting in savings. The analysis showed that there are effects of RNAV5 implementation on both routes. Jakarta-Yogyakarta route shortening experienced by 8 Nm or 9.52%, travel time reduced by 1.03 minutes or 9.36% and fuel consumption decreased by 55.38 kg or 9.52% on enroute phase. Route from Jakarta to Ujung Pandang experiencing shortening by 17 Nm or 3.21%, travel time reduced by 0.37 minutes or 0.52% and fuel consumption decreased by 76.91 kg or 2.36% on enroute phase. RNAV 5 implementation is possible to be applied in Indonesia, and it requires positive contribution from all aviation stake holders in the country. Consideration on regulation, infrastructure and human resources is absolutely necessary as a base for the implementation of RNAV 5 in the near future.
