The importance of GCF as diagnostic fluid becomes more promising because of its non-invasiveness. However, for many years the question of the presence of glucose in GCF has been a subject of debate especially instead of serum glucose measurement. Hence the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum glucose and GCF glucose in type 2 diabetic patients. If a significant correlation was exist, so serum glucose level for diabetic might be able to be monitored by GCF glucose. This research was conducted on 20 diabetic patient type 2 and 10 healthy subjects with males and females. Blood samples were collected at least 8 hours after fasting. Gingival crevicular fluid samples that were collected with paper strips and venous blood samples were centrifuged to measure serum glucose. Both samples of serum and GCF subjected to glucose analysis at the same time by using GOD-PAP method (photometer microlab 300). The results were statistically analyzed by Correlation and Regression test (Person Correlation test). The results of this study showed a moderate significant correlation between GCF glucose and serum glucose of type 2 diabetes with r = 0.591. The present study showed that GCF glucose concentration was lower 5 to 6 times than serum glucose concentration in type 2 diabetic patients with equation of y = 5.021 + 1.442x. So, it can be concluded that gingival crevicular fluid has possibility to be used as alternative method for monitoring glucose level in type 2 diabetic patients.
