THE APPLICATION OF STRATEGY DIAMOND FRAMEWORK IN FORMULATING A COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGY: A Case of Temesi Recycling Facility

Riset ini bertujuan untuk mengaplikasikan strategy diamond framework dalam lingkup pengolahan sampah padat yang memiliki konsep yang berkelanjutan. Konsep pengolahan sampah yang berkelanjutan seharusnya mampu mengurangi jumlah sampah dengan cara memberantas sampah yang ada atau bahkan menciptakan sebuah produk yang bermanfaat dari sampah tersebut. Di Temesi Recyling sampah diperlakukan secara berbeda dan dirubah menjadi kompos. Metode pengomposan yang ditempuh oleh pihak Temesi Recycling adalah aerobic composting dimana metode ini dapat mengurangi akumulasi jumlah gas berbahaya yang dapat terbentuk dalam proses anaerobic composting yang lebih tradisional. Metode yang ditempuh oleh pihak Temesi Recycling terbukti mampu memberantas 21.000 ton jumlah sampah per tahun. Lebih lanjut lagi, dengan mengantongi Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) yang terdaftar pada Protokol Kyoto, pihak Temesi Recyling mampu menciptakan sebuah konsep pengolahan sampah yang menguntungkan dan dapat terus hidup yang dapat direplikasi diseluruh wilayah Indonesia dan Asia Tenggara. Riset ini dilaksanakan di Temesi Recycling yang berlokasi di kabupaten Gianyar, Bali. Wawancara mendalam dilaksanakan pada Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) yang meliputi pihak manajemen tingkat puncak dan menegah dari Temesi Recycling. Pengamatan yang memadai mengenai kegiatan-kegiatan di seputar rantai nilai, pengomposan, dan penjualan dan pemasaran juga dilaksanakan secara seksama dengan tujuan untuk menyingkap kelima elemen dari strategy diamond framework. Sebagai hasil dari analisa-analisa strategic dan sesuai dengan tujuan dan misi perusahaan, kelima elemen yang terdiri dari arena, vehicle, differentiator, staging, dan economic logic dapat berperan sebagai strategi komprehensif bagi Temesi Recycling. Strategy diamond framework yang telah teruji dapat digunakan untuk memvisualisasi langkah-langkah strategis yang disarankan yang dapat diorkestrasikan sebagai sebuah kesatuan.

This research intends to apply the strategy diamond framework in the circumstance of the sustainable solid waste management concept. Sustainable waste management concept is meant to reduce waste by eliminating significant numbers of waste generated by the population or even transform it into some other valuable and usable products. There are so many solid waste management solutions but few are those who pursue the strategy of sustainability. As in Temesi Recycling waste are treated differently and transformed into genuine aerobic compost. The method pursued by the venture is aerobic composting in which it eliminates significant number of greenhouse gases which would otherwise be generated in the traditional anaerobic composting method. The method conducted at the venture had managed to eliminate 21,000 tons of waste per annum. Furthermore, by acquiring Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) registered to Kyoto Protocol, the venture is able to establish a viable solid waste management solution which intended to be replicated elsewhere throughout Indonesia and South East Asia. The research conducted in Temesi Recycling Bali in the regency of Gianyar. In-depth interviews were performed on the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) of the venture’s top and middle management. The proper observations toward the value chain, composting, and sales and marketing activities are also conducted accordingly in attempts to reveal the five elements of the strategy diamond framework. As the result of the strategic analyses and in relevance of the venture mission and objectives the five elements which comprise of arena, vehicle, differentiator, staging, and economic logic would perform as a comprehensive strategy for Temesi recycling. The tested strategy diamond framework can be exploited in order to visualize the recommended and proposed strategic moves which could be orchestrated as unity.
