METAFORA PADA LAGU-LAGU SPIRITUAL NEGRO (THE NEGRO SPIRITUALS)

Lagu-lagu spiritual Negro adalah lagu-lagu yang bertema spiritual yang merupakan ungkapan emosi dan perasaan frustasi, keputusasaan serta kepahitan hidup para budak di Amerika. Di dalam lagu-lagu inilah banyak terdapat metaforametafora yang digunakan oleh para budak untuk mengungkapkan perasaanya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan hubungan antara pebanding dan pembanding yang terdapat pada metafora lagu-lagu spiritual Negro, mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis metafora pada lagu-lagu spiritual Negro berdasarkan klasifikasi medan semantik, mendeskripsikan hubungan metafora pada lagu-lagu spiritual Negro dengan budaya (dalam hal ini pengalaman hidup) kaum BA (Black American) serta mendeskripsikan fungsi metafora pada lagu-lagu spiritual Negro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian dalam kategori ini dimaksudkan untuk mendeskripsikan teks bahasa secara alamiah yakni berdasarkan korpus lalu dianalisis dan menghasilkan sebuah kesimpulan atau pola. Metode penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu metode pengumpulan data, metode analisis data dan metode penyajian hasil analisis data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa setiap metafora memiliki tiga elemen pembentuk metafora yang terdiri dari elemen tenor, elemen vehicle dan elemen ground. Terdapat 8 jenis metafora pada lagu-lagu spiritual Negro berdasarkan medan semantiknya yaitu metafora ke-ada-an (being), metafora kosmos (cosmos), metafora energi (energy), metafora permukaan bumi (terrestrial), metafora benda mati (object), metafora tumbuhan (living), metafora binatang (animate) serta metafora manusia (human). Selain itu, budaya kaum BA juga sangat mempengaruhi penciptaan metafora-metafora pada lagu-lagu spiritual Negro. Hasil dari penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima fungsi metafora pada lagu-lagu spiritual Negro yaitu metafora yang menunjukkan kesedihan, metafora yang menunjukkan kemarahan, metafora yang menunjukkan ketaatan kepada Tuhan, metafora yang menunjukkan keputusasaan serta metafora yang menunjukkan harapan.

The Negro Spirituals are the songs which contain spiritual theme and are used to express emotion, frustration, desperation and the bitterness of slave’s life in America. In these Negro Spirituals, there are many metaphors that are used by the slaves to express those feelings. The aims of this research are to describe the relation between tenor and vehicle of metaphors in the Negro Spirituals, to describe kinds of metaphor in the Negro Spirituals based on the semantic field theory, to describe the relation between metaphors in the Negro Spirituals and BA (Black American) culture (including life experience) and to describe the functions of metaphor in the Negro Spirituals. This research has been done by using qualitative descriptive method. This research method describes language text naturally based on corpus. Then, this text is analyzed in order to get the conclusion or the pattern. This research method consists of three steps, which are data collecting method, data analysis method and data analysis result presenting method. The results of this research show that each metaphor consists of three elements. Those elements are tenor, vehicle and ground. There are eight kinds of metaphor in the Negro Spirituals. They are being, cosmos, energy, terrestrial, object, living, animate and human. In addition, Black American culture influences the creation of metaphor in the Negro Spirituals. The results of the research also show that there are five functions of metaphor in the Negro Spirituals. They are metaphors that show the sadness, metaphors that show the anger, metaphors that show the faithfulness to the God metaphors that show the desperation and metaphors that show the hope.
