The purpose of this research is for testing the social cognitive model of smoking behaviour in adolescents. The hypothesis in this research is that the social cognitive model which covers smoking effect expectation, smoking risk perception, emotion regulation, self-efficacy, peers who smoke, and family members who smoke can predict smoking behaviour in adolescents. The subject of the research are 188 adolescents, 12-17 years age, were student in Junior High School in Bantul Region. Measuring instruments in this research are smoking behaviour scale, smoking effect expectation scale, self efficacy scale, smoking risk perception scale, and questionnaire asking how many peers and family members sho smoke. Data analysis technique is using are structural equation model analysis. The research shows that the social cognitive models suggested in this research are appropriate to explain smoking behaviour in early adolescents and has the appropriate basis of theory. This fact can be seen through the indicators of models compatibilities which demonstrate good criteria. The result of this research also shows the significant differences amongst the variables of smoking effect expectation, smoking risk perception, self-efficacy, peers who smoke, and family members who smoke each in the smoking groups of subjects and in the non-smoking groups of subjects. The conclusion is that these variables stand as determinant predictors of smoking behaviour in adolescents.
