Signal coordination plan using aimsun simulation :: Case study Senopati-BNI-Wirobrajan Intersection

Traffic signal can be used to control traffic on a road stretch, the signal can be useful on highly trafficked road stretches, especially if some type of strategic signal coordination is used to improve the overall performance of the traffic system. This research is done in order to 1) evaluate traffic controls along Jl. Wirobrajan, Jl. KH. Ahmad Dahlan, Jl. Senopati Yogyakarta based on current condition, 2) to model traffic signal using Aimsun simulation, 3) to plan signal coordination on the network and analyze the performance of the network traffic systems. The research is carried out by observing the traffic condition in four intersections along Jl Senopati until Jl. Wirobrajan,. A case study is used to explore the performance of these intersections in developing coordination strategies. Performance comparison in this research was based on three road networks performance: Travel Time, Delay, and Queue Length. The method applied in this research is divided into two calculations which are intersections performance calculation of road network in existing condition and intersection performance calculation in a coordinated system. The calculation is simulated by AIMSUN software. The next step is to obtain analysis result, the comparison between the existing and simulated condition should be carried out. The research shows that delay performance is improve 26.87% from 320.7 seconds to 234.8 seconds. Based on travel time parameter, the performance improves 15.8% from 543.05 seconds to 457.2 seconds. Based on queue parameters, the performance improves 2%. Despite some sections get lower performances but the result is encouraging the applications since it gives better performance result. For overall network performance it can be mentioned that it is possible to implement signal coordination based on the comparison of performance result.
