Public transport information access using mobilephone :: Case study Yogakarta City

Invention of science and technology in this modern era is increasingly rapid. Information technology replacing the way people write until the way people think. The advancement of technology in of computer, cellular phone and internet make efficient and effective process for the information system. There are a lot of opportunities by using the information system to support people’s activities. Many people interested to using their mobile phone to access the information because that is the fastest way to get the information. Mobile phone can access the website or SMS to get the result. Yogyakarta as community needs the Public Transport Information to provide the fast, reliable, and cheap information about the transportation in DI Yogyakarta. The implication of the system is increasing in passenger volume and the economics in Yogyakarta. The objectives of this research are as to develop a web base information system that can be access by the user especially using mobile phone and to develop a server system that can be access by SMS (Short Message Service). The scopes of this work are the transportation modes that used in this study are TransJogja, urban bus, and Pramex. The study case of this research is in DI Yogyakarta. The system will be accessed especially from mobile phone. Accessing the web base information system means that the user have no limitation in time and place. The application will be handled request SMS that uses SMS codes that has been determined. The SMS codes will inform in the website and the SMS information that send to the user. This research developed the information system using MySQL as database, PHP Programming to develop the website and the connection from website until to the database. Java Programming to develop the SMS Gateway Application. SMS Gateway is developed using the package from the smslib.com and modify the source code. Application Programming Interface will be handle both subsystem (website and SMS) so they just accessed the same database. Inputting the origin shelter, destination shelter, and start time to travel in the website, the user will get the information about route, price, distance, travel time, and the schedule of public transport in Yogyakarta. The user will get information about SMS format that used in this system, ticketing information about public transport in Yogyakarta, interested places in Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta city map, and contact information. The user did not need to register to the system. Inputting the origin shelter id and the destination shelter id with formatted SMS will get respond route, price, distance, travel time, and the schedule of public transport in Yogyakarta for one alternative route. The users can request the information again to get the other alternative route. Although have advantages and disadvantages, this information system have possibility to be implemented in Yogyakarta.
