Mathematics at school oftenly assumed as a terrifying subject for students that can affect in motivation and academic achievement. Engagement is a concept to prevent motivational decline and can predict the academic achievement. One of many methods that have been used by teachers to improve their student’s motivation and academic achievement is cooperative learning. TAI cooperative learning methods is designed specifically to teach mathematics to students in grade 3-6. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of cooperative learning TAI on improving the mathematic engagement of third grade elementary students in Yogyakarta (N=50). Student’s engagement behavior on mathematic subject increases after the treatment is given (F=7.811, p<0.05). Findings confirm that students who received TAI method showed better emotional engagement in mathematic lesson.
