Simbol ketidakadilan jender kajian ekranisasi terhadap Perempuan Berkalung Sorban :: Novel dan film

Ekranisasi merupakan cabang studi sastra bandingan yang relatif baru, walaupun tergolong baru, telah berkembang dengan pesat. Salah satu film hasil ekranisasi adalah adalah Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (selanjutnya disingkat PBS), yang diangkat dari novel dengan judul yang sama. Film ini menarik perhatian masyarakat terbukti setelah filmya beredar, novel PBS dalam waktu tidak lebih lima bulan telah dicetak ulang lima kali. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori semiotik untuk mengetahui simbol ketidakadilan jender yang terdapat dalam PBS, dengan harapan agar pembahasan menjadi terfokus. Selain itu, juga dipergunakan teori kritik sastra feminis untuk meneliti ketidakadilan jender yang terdapat di dalamnya. Masalah ketidakadilan jender mendominasi dalam novel dan film PBS. Ekranisasi dipergunakan untuk mengetahui perubahan dari novel ke film. Dari ekranisasi ini dapat diketahui perubahan yang terdapat dari novel ke filmya. Hasil penelitian ini adalah novel dan film PBS sarat dengan simbol-simbol. Pemanfaatan simbol-simbol dalam novel dan film berbeda, karena sarana yang dipergunakan dalam novel dan film juga berbeda. Novel menggunakan sarana kata-kata, semua unsur cerita, tema, plot, penokohan, alur dan sebagainya dikemukakan dengan kata-kata, demikian juga simbol-simbolnya dikemukakan dengan kata-kata. Dalam film sarana yang dipergunakan adalah gambar-gambar yang bergerak berkelanjutan. Semua unsur cerita, tema, alur, penokohan, latar dan sebagainya dikemukakan dengan gambar-gambar. Demikian juga simbol-simbol dikemukakan menggunakan gambar-gambar yang bergerak berkelanjutan. Simbol yang dipergunakan dalam novel menggunakan kata-kata dan kalimat yang mengandung pengertian konotatif. Dengan penggunaan kata dan kalimat konotatif ini, pembaca diberi kesempatan untuk memberikan arti sesuai dengan asosianya. Dalam film, simbol-simbol yang dikemukakan berupa gambar-gambar yang bergerak berkelanjutan. Gambar-gambar tersebut juga ditafsirkan berbeda oleh penonton. Dengan demikian setiap kali novel dibaca dan film ditonton, selalu memberikan arti baru, arti baru yang muncul bukanlah seperti yang dipikirkan pengarang, tetapi diusahakan dan “diproduksi” oleh pembaca Novel PBS yang diadaptasi ke film menyebabkan terjadinya perubahan makna. Makna baru yang ditimbulkan akibat adanya perubahan itu adalah lebih ke fungsi dramatik dan efektifitas cerita. Hal ini mengingat film dibatasi oleh durasi waktu.

Ecranisation is a relatively new branch of comparative literature study that develops rapidly. One of the movies as a result of ecranisation is Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (hereafter abbreviated as PBS), adopted from the novel with the same title. This movie attracts public attention that after it has been released, the novel of PBS has been re-printed five times within no more than five months. This applies semiotic theory to identify the symbol of gender injustice that exists in PBS in order to focus the analysis. In addition, it also applies feminist literary criticism theory to investigate the gender injustice. The issue of gender injustice dominates the novel and the movie of PBS. Ecranisation is employed to identify the alteration from the novel to the movie. As a result, it can be identified the alteration that exists from the novel to the movie. The research result indicates that novel and movie of PBS are full of symbols. The utilization of symbols in the novel and the movie is different due to the difference of means in the novel and the movie. The novel employs a means of words that all elements of story, theme, plot, characterization, etc. are expressed by words. In addition, symbols are also expressed by words. In the movie, a means that is employed is continuous moving pictures. All elements of story, theme, plot, characterization, setting, etc. are expressed by pictures. In addition, symbols are expressed by employing continuous moving pictures. Symbols in the novel utilize words and sentences containing connotative meaning. Accordingly, readers are given opportunities to give meaning based on their association. In the movie, the symbols are expressed in the form of continuous moving pictures. Such pictures may be interpreted differently by the audience. Therefore, every time the novel is read and the movie is watched, new meaning appears that is not what is in the author‟s mind, but afforded and „produced‟ by the readers. Movie-adapted novel PBS invites the alteration of meaning. The new meaning as a result of such alteration is more on the dramatic function and effectiveness of the story, having regards to the duration.
