Tourism as Development Investment in Less Developesd Region in Indonesia

Hampered by remoteness and underdevelopment and located far from the central economy agglomeration, rural areas in eastern region of Indonesia is less developed than its western region in terms of income level, quality of human resources, and—particularly—infrastructure. Tourism cluster in the developing economies can be a positive force in improving the outlying infrastructure and in dispersing economic activity. In this study, different types of tourism are combined to perform new tourism cluster in order to generate cooperation among regions to create a new market brand, especially in the tourism industry, as a trigger for economic growth in less developed areas. The result from analysis shows that tourism cluster was performed to guide future studies by showing which of them should be introduced to the market in the short, medium, and long term according their level of tourism potential and level of infrastructure.
