Modelling the train passenger choice in Bekasi Jakarta line

A stated preference survey was conducted to gather the necessary data. The stated preference experiment is developed looking fictitious seven scenarios of train trips between Bekasi and Jakarta. In total 205 respondents participated in the survey. Those respondents had to answer questions in two sections. In the first section people were asked about some trip characteristics and socio economic information were also gathered for each respondents, second section consists of 7 scenarios stated preference. Four variables are used – travel time, headway, fare, and comfort. The software package BIOGEME was used to estimate the relative and quantitative importance of the attributes in the utility function. This was done with a multinomial logit model. The result of the model shows that the multinomial logit model gives a slightly better fit. The result shows female passenger does care more about the cost/fare costs than male passenger, but for comfort, the difference is neglect able. Older people tend to care more about valuation of time than young people. Income influences the passenger choice of the elder’s choice for comfort attribute in contrast with the young respondents. In conclusion the respondents more prefer comfortable train saloon, shorter train travel and high frequency.
