Road surfacing is required to tolerate harsh climatic conditions and heavy axle loads. In particular, climate condition is related to deterioration performance and this research emphasizes on the importance of designing the performance of asphaltic surfacing material to maximize road performance. The aggregates to be used in such skid resisting pavement courses ought to possess certain engineering characteristics. This research focuses on the influence of using manufactured aggregate (i.e. steel slag) and natural aggregate (i.e. clereng) as chipping aggregate on Hot Rolled Sheet – Wearing Course mixture. For comparison, it uses variant of specimen on size and proportion of spread rate. Three specimens of size for each surface are 6mm, 10mm and 20mm and the spreading rates for each surface mixture are 50%, 75%, and 100% per square area specimen. The investigation of skid resistance number uses the British Pendulum Tester. The result investigation for maximum British Pendulum Number (BPN) of clereng is 85.75 with the size of 10mm and 75% of proportion of spreading rate. Otherwise, skid number of steel slag is 82.20 with the size of 6mm and 50% of proportion of spreading rate. This research compares BPN of clereng and steel slag for chipping method and also compares chip seal and chipping method. As a result of investigation with hypothesis test for two means, it shows that skid number for steel slag is mostly higher than natural aggregate.
