Development of appropriate speed control system for Indonesia

Cases related with speeding are quite serious in Indonesia. The number of these cases is not so many actually, but the result of its occurrence is very harmful since speeding represents as one main cause of accident in Indonesia. There has not been any systematic way to handle this problem up until now. The aim of this study is to explore ways to manage the speeding problem. By doing this study, it is expected to get an appropriate speed control system which is applicable to use in Indonesia. This research uses literature study to get necessary data. A set of questionnaires is also distributed to police department to get speed enforcement data that have been performed in Indonesia. The research explores other countries’ enforcement system to support the analysis of that in Indonesia. The result is then analyzed by SWOT method to get an appropriate strategy for Indonesia. This strategy is proposed to handle the problem of speeding. The results of this study are regulations and ways to manage and control vehicle speed on road section. These strategies are appropriate to Indonesian’s characteristic. The violations of speed limit can be decreased by applying these strategies.
