Beberapa kasus sengketa medik terjadi karena kurangnya penjelasan dokter tentang informed consent. Kasus tersebut juga terjadi di Timor Leste, khususnya di RS NGV Dili. Dokter yang melakukan suatu operasi di rumah sakit tersebut seringkali kurang memperhatikan dengan baik unsur-unsur pemberian informasi pada pasien sebelum ia melakukan tindakan operasi. Selain itu, dokter juga tidak melakukan cek pemahaman pasien terhadap penjelasan yang diberikannya. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui seberapa jauh pemahaman tentang informed consent serta pelaksanaannya di RS NGV Dili. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan kuesioner dan penelusuran dokumen. Hasil Penelitian: Dari hasil penelitian yang didapat, menunjukkan bahwa pelaksanaan informed consent di RS NGV Dili, tidak terlaksana dengan baik. Kesimpulan: Pengaturan hukum dan undang-undang kesehataan Timor-leste tentang informed consent sangat diperlukan untuk menjamin adanya pelaksanaan informed consent itu dalam praktek provider di rumah sakit.
Background: How far the understanding of some doctors related to informed consent and its implication to the patient and the doctor themselves needed attention. There were some medical cases due to lack of knowledge and limited explanation from the doctors about informed consent. Those cases occurred in Timor Leste, particularly in the National Guido Valadares Hospital, Dili. Doctor, who conducted surgical operation often failed to give attention on conveying information to patient before surgical operation. In addition, they also did not ask for feedback whether the patient has understood the explanation or not. Objective: To find out how far doctors comprehend informed consent in order to provide medical care to patients at National Guido Valadares Hospital, Dili, and also to find out the knowledge of patient about informed consent. Method: The research was qualitative. Data were collected by in-depth interview and exploration of document. Result: The result showed that informed consent at National Guido Valadares Hospital, Dili, did not implement properly as existing regulation. Conclusion: The implementation of informed consent requires law enforcement and health regulation in Timor Leste to ensure the implementation by provider at the hospital.
