Novel enchanted dalam kajian posmodern Brian McHale

Enchanted adalah sebuah novel adaptasi dari film berjudul sama produksi Disney dan dibukukan juga di bawah lisensi Disney oleh Jasmine Jones. Novel ini menampilkan intertekstualitas dunianya dengan dongeng-dongeng Snow White (Putri Salju), Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty in the Wood (Putri Tidur) dan Blair Rose. Secara literal dunia Enchanted menghadirkan Andalasia and New York sebagai dunia berbeda dimensi. Pluralirtas dunia Enchanted mengindikasikan ciri karya posmodernis. Penelitian ini mengkaji persoalan bagaimana kehadiran dunia-dunia Enchanted dalam konteks fiksi posmodernis dan menghubungkan judul Enchanted dengan konsep re-renchantment (kembalinya pesona dunia). Teori fiksi posmodernis Mchale membedakan karya modernis dan posmodernis dari sisi dominannya. Karya modernis menonjolkan dominan epistemologis dan karya posmodernis menonjolkan dominan ontologis. Teori tersebut digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menemukan susunan dunia-dunia Enchanted dalam mengeksplorasi permasalahan ontologis, sehingga ditemukan strategi-strategi yang digunakan untuk meghadirkan dunia-dunia di dalamnya. Selanjutnya pendekatan sosiologis dilakuan untuk menemukan alasan kembalinya pesona dunia (reenchantment) dalam Enchanted menggunakan dasar konsep disenachantment of the world yang dikemukakan Weber. Hasil penelitian ini pertama adalah bahwa Enchanted merupakan fiksi posmodernis yang mengedepankan permasalahan ontologis. Kedua, intertekstualitas dengan lima dongeng dan trasnformasinya tersebut adalah untuk menghadirkan fantasi yang kedongengan sehingga menjadikan Enchanted sebagai novel yang mendongeng atau dongeng yang menovel. Ketiga, kemasan re-enchantment dalam Enchanted adalah untuk memenuhi residu keinginan manusia akan pemuasan terhadap pesona pada dunia yang tertekan oleh rasionalitas di era modern. Karakter Enchanted yang demikian mengekspresikan dan menghidupkan manusia posmodern. Manusia posmodern adalah manusia yang hidup dalam kondisi posmodern. Sementara kondisi posmodern adalah kondisi yang memperlakukan manusia modern tak ubahnya manusia tradisional, yaitu sebagai manusia yang tak dapat membedakan antara yang nyata dan dan yang fiksi.

Enchanted is an adaptation novel from a film entitled Enchanted produced and printed under license of Disney Enterprises, Inc, the novel is written by Jasmine Jones. The novel presents its worlds intertextuality with five fairy tales; they are Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty in the Wood and Blair Rose. Literally Enchanted’s worlds are plural presented by Andalasia and New York as worlds which have different dimensions. The plurality indicates posmodernity in the novel. This resarch analyzes presentation of the worlds in postmodernist fiction context and relates the title of the novel with re-enchantment concept. McHale’s theory of postmodernist fiction distinctly divides modernist fiction and postmodernist fiction right on the dominant. The dominant of modernist fiction is epistemological and the dominant of postmodernist fiction is ontological. The theory is applied in this research in case to solve the ontological problems of the construction of the worlds so that strategies used in the construction are found. Furthermore, sociological approach is used to answer the reason of such reenchantment of the world in the novel through Weber’s concept of disenchantment of the world. Results of this research are as the following points. Formerly, Enchanted is a postmodernist fiction foregrounded by ontological matters. Secondly, intertextuality with and transformation done to the fifth fairy tales presents fairy tale-like fantasy which presenting Enchanted as a fairy tale-like-novel or a novellike- fairy tale. Thirdly, the package of re-enchantment in Enchanted is in order to fulfill human’s will residue of enchantment that pressed beneath rationality in modern era. Such character of Enchanted expresses and lives postmodern wo/man. Postmodern wo/man is someone who lives in postmodern condition that is a condition in treating modern wo/man as a traditional one. This condition treats them as the same, as people who cannot distinguish between the real and the fiction.
