CDM project as a mechanism of achieving sustainable development

Dunia saat ini menghadapi ancaman effek rumah kaca yang diakibatkan oleh kegiatan berbagai industri yang menggunakan sumber alam yang berasal dari fossil antara lain minyak bumi serta batubara sebagai sumber energi, perubahan fungsi hutan, aktivitas perkebunan dan pertanian serta pembuangan limbah. Perubahan iklim yang diakibatkan oleh pemanasan global berpotensi terhadap berkurangnya keseimbangan kehidupan organisme, termasuk pengaruh kegiatan manusia yang menyerap sumbersumber lingkungan hidup jangka panjang. Untuk menjaga kelestarian lingkungan dapat dilakukan dengan pengurangan intensitas emisi gas karbon. Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) adalah salah satu dari tiga metodologi berdasarkan Konvensi Kyoto untuk mengurangi dampak perubahan iklim dengan cara mengurangi emisi karbon secara global. Melalui implementasi program CDM negara berkembang dapat beralih ke teknologi maju sehingga mampu mengurangi penggunaan sumber daya alam dan menciptakan perkembangan yang berkesinambungan Semestinya lebih banyak lagi perusahaan di Indonesia yang dapat aktif berpartisipasi dalam projek CDM. Namun hal ini tergantung tersedianya insentip pemerintah, antara lain keringanan pajak serta peraturan yang memberikan dukungan terhadap program CDM.

The world is now experiencing big threat from the greenhouse effect caused by the use of natural resources includes burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas from various industries, de-forestation, agriculture activities and waste disposal. A potential climate change resulted from the global warming cause destruction of conditions and living organism, including man and his behavior, which influence the continuance of the living environment resources. One of the efforts for managing the environment is reducing the carbon emissions intensity as the main contribution of the greenhouse effect. Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is one of the methodologies to mitigate climate change under the Kyoto Protocol; it works both ways for developed and developing countries. The funds gained from developed countries can be used by the developing countries for further investment in new & alternative technologies that reduce the consumption of natural resources, creating sustainable development. Indonesia might have more companies participate in the CDM projects for achieving sustainable development for the country, depending on government incentives and efforts, such as the availability of tax benefits and conduciveness regulations.
