Penggunaan picture exchange communication system untuk meningkatkan level kemampuan perilaku meminta pada anak autis tipe non verbal

Hendaya komunikasi merupakan salah satu gejala yang sering ditemui pada anak autis. Sekitar 50 % anak yang didiagnosa mengalami autis akan tetap mengalami kesulitan berkomunikasi hingga dewasa. Salah satu metode untuk mengajarkan komunikasi adalah dengan menggunakan Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) fase I – IV (Physical exchange, expanding spontaneity, Picture discrimination, Sentence structure). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan level kemampuan perilaku meminta pada anak autis tipe non verbal. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan eksperimen multiple baseline across subject. Subjek penelitian dua orang anak autis, yaitu A (6 tahun) dan J (4 tahun) yang belum dapat berkomunikasi secara verbal. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis visual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan metode PECS dapat meningkatkan level kemampuan perilaku meminta pada anak autis tipe non verbal.

Communication deficits is one of the symptoms usually found in children with autism. About 50% of children that are diagnosed with autism will still have difficulties in communicating through out adulthood. One of the methods in teaching communication is using Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) phase I-IV (Physical exchange, expanding spontaneity, Picture discrimination, Sentence structure). The purpose of this study is to increase the level of requesting behavior in autistic children with non-verbal type. This study is using experiment design multiple baseline across subject design. The subjects of this study are children with autism, A (6 years) and J (4 years), who are unable to communicate verbally. The data is analyzed with visual analysis. The result of this study shows that the use of PECS can increase the level of requesting behavior ability in autistic children with non-verbal type.
