Nowadays, there are many industrial sectors especially in Indonesia utilizing the coal to help their production process. The coal itself during the combustion process will result in the energy that support the production process. However, after combustion process it will result waste materials such as fly ash and another material that will cause problems for the environment. To solve these problems, some researches which utilize waste material in their works should be performed. The final purpose of these researches is to make waste materials to be more valuable materials. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of fly ash usage as additive in the Asphaltic Concrete - Wearing Course (AC-WC) mixture. Fly ash which will be used comes from Toray Company, Jakarta, Indonesia. The variations of fly ash are 0%, 1%, 3% and 5% by weight percentages. The specifications or procedures are from Bina Marga, Ministry of Public Works of Indonesia and the percentage of coarse aggregate (CA) is 57%, fine aggregate (FA) is 36%, and for filler is 7%. The tests to investigate the performance of modified asphalt are using penetration test, viscosity test, specific gravity test and softening point test. For AC-WC mixture performance, the tests are using Marshall Test and Indirect Tensile Strength Test (ITS). The test results shows that the Optimum Asphalt Contents (OAC) based on fly ash variation of 0%, 1%, 3% and 5% are 6.4%, 5.5%, 5.7% and 6.0%. For Marshall Test and ITS Test results in the OAC condition each fly ash variation resulting different characteristics. The overall conclusion is modified asphalt with 3% fly ash has the optimum performances compared to the other fly ash variations, because it has highest tensile strength ratio than the others that can makes the mixture more durable and for Marshall characteristic it is also have the optimum performances.
