Motorcyclist riders are more vulnerable to injuries than those using other motorized vehicles. This phenomenon may act along with the complexity of conflicting movements between vehicles and motorcyclists’ at junctions to increase their injury severities. A junction-type collision can be more serious than a non-junction case to motorcyclists as some of the deadly crashes such as angle collisions commonly occur (Chih-Wei Pai& Wafaa Saleh, 2008). This research was carried out to investigate motorcyclist behavior before entering unsignalized intersection, so that measures can be proposed for intersections observed. It is expected that safety driving for road users, especially motorcyclists, will be achieved. The research was conducted by behavioral survey using digital camera on 3 (three) locations of intersection approaches, and then the data was transcribed using video data. A new approach called conflict technique which is based on pragmatically simplified concept where interaction and impact between flows at intersection is brought through mathematically formulated. Indonesia Highway Capacity Manual-1997 (IHCM-1997) is used as the empirical approach in this research. The findings indicated that the common behavior of motorcyclists on each intersection were different. Most motorcyclists ride in steady speed before entering intersection. Lane-choosing behavior is changing to period of time. Most the motorcyclists ride in left lane to make left turn and the same reason also occurs to those who rides in right lane. On the other hand, motorcyclists riding in the middle of the road keep the speed and avoided vehicles from minor road. In traffic conflict, motorcyclist involved in 100% of traffic conflicts recorded. The most serious conflict happens in intersection 2, between motorcyclist and pedestrian. Beside those parameters, few interesting parts occur during observation, such as motorcyclist that ride against the traffic flow and minor-rider behavior that appears in major road. Comparing to signalized intersection, there is improvement in the several behaviors which is observed in this research. The motorcyclists at the signalized intersection are “forced” to decrease their speed and then stop in the red phase. This situation decrease conflicts in the intersection area.
