Traffic signals play an important role in signalized intersection performance. Inefficient traffic signal timing results in congestions and delays which cause wasted fuel, increased air pollution, and wasted time for drivers and their passengers. The intersections are usually the bottleneck of the network, the popular and immediate source of the traffic congestions and traffic accidents. A coordination of signalized intersections could reduce delay, travel time and travel cost. This paper investigates the possibilities of the coordination of traffic control system application in Yogyakarta. The research was carried out by performance comparison analysis method between existing system and simulation model. Performance of road network for exsisting condition in this research is calculated based on Manual Kapasitas Jalan Indonesia (MKJI 1997), Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual, whilst for the coordinated condition, it is simulated by TRANSYT 11. Performance model is calculated for comparison by including parameters: Delay, Degree of Saturation, and Queue Length. The output of TRANSYT showed that the degree of saturation of the network was decreased from 72.4 percent to 66.7 percent. Total delay lessens by 25.5 percent from the isolated system. The general performance on queue length also shows significant increase, ranging from 35.3 percent to 94.6 percent. The current results are encouraging enough to apply the coordinated system since it gives better network performance than the isolated one.
