Kemajuan teknologi informasi telah didukung dengan perangkat lunak maupun perangkat keras yang semakin modern. Salah satu faktor dan komponen perkembangan tersebut adalah sarana komunikasi. Peralatan komunikasi seluler mengalami konvergensi terhadap teknologi komputer. Saat ini sebagian teknologi dan layanan yang sebelumnya diakses dengan komputer dapat dilayani menggunakan peralatan komunikasi seluler. Peralatan komunikasi seperti telepon seluler telah dapat melakukan penjelajahan internet atau membuka informasi dari halaman web. Telepon seluler pada umumnya memiliki keterbatasan yang menghambat akses informasi melalui internet. Dengan teknologi web mobile, proses desain dan implementasi halaman web akan disesuaikan dengan kemampuan tampilan peralatan mobile. Hal ini dapat meminimalkan masalah yang muncul pada saat sebuah halaman web diakses oleh peralatan seperti telepon seluler. Salah satu layanan yang memanfaatkan teknologi internet adalah layanan informasi akademik yang merupakan bagian dari sebuah sistem informasi akademik. Agar mahasiswa dapat mengakses informasi akademik menggunakan telepon selulernya, maka perlu dikembangkan sebuah layanan untuk diakses menggunakan telepon seluler. Dari beberapa percobaan melakukan akses ke halaman web mobile untuk meminta layanan akademik seperti nilai, KRS dan jadwal, diperoleh hasil bahwa operator Mobile 8 dengan produk CDMA Fren menjadi penyedia jasa telekomunikasi seluler yang paling cepat transfer datanya. Sedangkan untuk GSM Indosat IM3 menjadi yang tercepat dibandingkan dengan Simpati dari Telkomsel dan XL. Spesifikasi perangkat yang digunakan juga berpengaruh pada tingkat kecepatan transfer data.

The growth of information technology has been supported by the more modern software and hardware. One of the factors and of these components is the development of communication facilities. Cellular communication equipment had experienced convergence with computer technology. Currently, most technology and services that previously accessed by a computer can be accessed by the use of cellular communication devices. Communication equipment such as cellular phones have been able to browse the Internet or open information from the web page. Generally, cellular phones have limitation when accessing information through the Internet. With mobile web technology, process design and implementation of the web page will be customized with the ability to view mobile equipment. This can minimize problems that arise when a web page is accessed by devices such as cellular phones. One of the services that use Internet technology is the academic information service that is part of a system of academic information. So that students can access the information using their cellular phone, the need for a service to be developed for is accessed using cellular phones. From some experiments to do to access mobile web page to ask for a service like Academic score, and KRS schedule, the results showed that the operator Mobile 8 with a CDMA Fren product to be the provider of cellular telecommunications services, the most rapid transfer of data. Meanwhile, Indosat GSM iM3 become the fastest compared with Simpati from Telkomsel and XL. Specification device that is used also influence the level of speed data transfer
