The application of non destructive test (NDT) on evaluation of concrete quality of building has been widely used nowadays and commonly this method is closely related to the quality of the produced concrete. On of the method in NDT is the usage of ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), where this method can be used well whether on the laboratory or on the field to determine the relation between concrete strength and pulse velocity. From the previous researches there have been many experiments done to study the relation of pulse velocity and compression strength, where this relation is very much affected by the characteristics of the concrete materials. In this research the UPV test is applied with direct and indirect methods on normal and high strength concrete with different qualities using local materials on Yogyakarta. This research was carried out using concrete materials which their qualities has been identified from variation of water to cement ratio of 0,75; 0,62; 0,48; 0,38; 0,26 and 0,22. The twelve beams speciment of 15 × 15 × 75 cm3 dimension were adapted. The UPV test was carried out after the concrete reach the age of 7, 14, 21 and 28 days for direct test and at the age of 28 days for indirect test. Test of concrete compressive strength was carried out following the UPV test. The remaining specimens were cut to provide concrete cube of 15 × 15 × 15 cm3 for normal concrete and 10 × 10 × 10 cm3 for high strength concrete. From the UPV test using direct method it is found that the relation between concrete compressive strength and pulse velocity on confidence level of 95% is an exponentially regression equation y = 0,006e1,986x . While the indirect method yield two exponentially regression equations y = 0,010e1,948x for tranducers spacing of 10,15,20, 25, 30 cm and y = 0,010e2,050x for spacing of 10,15,20,25,30,35 and 40 cm. From the equation close to the pulse velocity resulting from direct method a factor of 1,045 is suggested when result from indirect to direct test. The experiment using E-Meter equipment indicates similar result to the UPV test, e.i : good relationship between concrete strength and pulse velocity.
