Kesetimbangan fase amonia pada air dan sedimen di sungai

Penelitian ini akan mempelajari proses kesetimbangan fase adsorpsi amonia pada berbagai pH dan BOD(Biochemical Oxygen Demand). Konsentrasi total amonia di air menentukan jumlah amonia terjerap di sedimen sungai. Pada percobaan ini, Spektrofotometer Ultra Violet (UV) digunakan untuk menganalisa konsentrasi amonia total di air yang berkesetimbangan dengan amonia terjerap di sedimen. Percobaan dilakukan di dalam shaker-bath pada berbagai pH (2,5 sampai dengan 6,5) dan BOD (20 sampai dengan 60 mg/L). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi pH dan BOD, semakin tinggi nilai jumlah larutan amonia terjerap di sedimen (CAs). Kesetimbangan fase amonia di fase air dan fase sedimen mengikuti persamaan Toth termodifikasi.
Hazardous pollutants for human such as pesticide, organic matters, urban garbage, DDT (Dichloro Diphenyl Tricloroethane), and especially ammonia are often found in river water and sediment. This research studied the adsorption equilibrium of ammonia in river sediment for various pH and BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand). The total concentration of ammonia in the aqueous phase will determine the quantities of ammonia adsorbed in river sediment. Ultra Violet (UV) Spectrophotometer was used to analyze the total concentration of ammonia in water that was in equilibrium with the river sediment. Experiments were done in a shaker-bath at various pH (2.5 to 6.5) and BOD (20 to 60 mg/L). Based on the data, it can be concluded that the higher the value of pH and BOD, the higher the concentration of ammonia in the river sediment (CAs). It showed that ammonia was adsorbed in the river sediment. The phase equilibrium of ammonia in river water and sediment fits well with modified Toth equation.
