Analysis and design of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation for small to medium cigarette company :: The Case of PT DJITOE Indonesia Tobacco Coy in Solo

Riset in ibertujaun untuk mempelajari kemungkinan implementasi Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) untuk Usaha Kecil dan Menengah atau Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) khusunya perusahaan rokok dengan skala kecil sampai sedang dengan melalui fase analisis, desain dan fase implementasi. Data dalam riset ini diperoleh dengan Observasi lapangan kerja, interview dan Join Requirement Planning. Sejak sistem ERP menunjukkan kekuatannya, banyak perusahaan dengan skala besar berusaha untuk meng-implementasikan ERP di dalam perusahaannya. Pada tahun 2000, lebih dari 60% perusahaan dalam fortune 1000 berusaha mengimplementasikan ERP ini, minimal mereka menggunakan satu module dari system ERP. Semakin meningkatnya perusahaan dengan skala Kecil dan menengah memaksa perusahaan-perusahaan nasuk ke dalam persaingan yan lebih ketat yang juga memaksa perusahaan untuk menjalankan proses bisnis secara efektif dan efisien. Beberapa perusahaan bahkan berusaha mengimplementasi ERP dengan membangun sendiri system tersebut. Namun, mereka harus menghadapi kegagalan yang disebabkan oleh beberapa permasalahan seperti kurangnya pengalaman dalam membangun sistem. Untuk memenuhi permintaan system ERP, banayk vendor menawarkan system siap pakai untuk SME yang dijual dengan harga yang terjangkau. Penggunaan system Open Source tidak hanya menjadi solusi alternatif dalam meng-implemantasi ERP, akan tetapi hal ini menjadi system yang mempunyai kekuatan lebih karena me mbutuhkan nilai investasi yang lebih sedikit. Sistem siap pakai lebih mudah untuk diimplementasikan, namun beberapak permasalahan mungkin muncul dalam proses implementasi. FAST yang merupakan singkatan dari Framework for Application of System Thinking membantu perusahaan untuk mengurangi masalah yang mungkin timbul dalam proses implementasi dengan beberapa langakah dalam mem-filter masalah. Hasil dari riset ini adalah metode FAST mambantu perusahaan untuk mengurangi kegagalan dalam implemantasi sistem ERP yang juga merupakan gambaran dari kompleknya proses bisnis. ADempiere sebagai system ERP yang bersifat open source dapat memberikan beberapa keuntungan yaitu tidak diperlukannya investasi untuk aplikasi tersebut. Aplikasi tersebut bebas digunakan tanpa ha rus membayar, investasi hanya diperlukan untuk pembelian hardware atau keperluan pendukung lainnya dalam implementasi ERP seperti training karyawan.

This research is aimed to study the possibilities of implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) within Small to medium enterprises especially Cigarette Company through analysis, design systems and implementing phase. Field observation, interview, and joint requirement planning were held to collect data in order to succeed the ERP implementation. Since ERP system shows its power, lots of large company tried to implement ERP system within the company. In 2000, more than 60% of fortune 1000 companies were considering or had already implement at least one core of ERP module, even though it need huge capital to be invested. Lower scale of companies could not afford to implement the ERP system. The emerging Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) drove companies to more tight competition that force the companies to create more effective and efficient business process. Some of the companies tried to implement ERP systems through in-house development system. But they have to face failure since there are obstacles faced by the company such as less experience on developing systems. To fulfill the demand of ERP system, many vendors offer ready-to-use system for SME which sold in more affordable price. Using the Open source systems not just an alternative way to implement ERP systems, but it becomes the most powerful system which needs less capital to invest. The ready-to-use systems are quite easy to implement. Anyhow, problems might occur on the implementation process. FAST which stands for Framework for Application of Systems Thinking might help the company to reduce the problems that might occur on the implementation process since it has several steps as the problems filter. The result of this result is FAST method helping the company to reduce failure on implementing ERP system which also depicts the complex process of business process. ADempiere as the Open Source ERP system could give more advantages for the company. It does not need money to buy the system; it is can freely use within the company. The company only needs capital to invest on hardware and other supporting matter such as employees training.
