Pengaruh proses Pack Carburizing media arang tempurung kelapa-Barium Carbonat terhadap kekerasan dan keausan baja karbon AISI 1020

Proses pack carburizing merupakan salah satu proses pengerasan permukaan baja karbon rendah dengan metode difusi atom karbon. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh proses pack carburizing dengan media arang tempurung kelapa dan barium karbonat terhadap keausan dan kekerasan mikro pada baja karbon AISI 1020. Barium karbonat digunakan sebagai media penambah unsur karbon dengan komposisi 0, 15, 20, dan 25% berat, sedangkan substrat baja karbon AISI 1020 berdimensi 20mm x 30mm x 3 mm. Variasi temperatur pemanasan yang diberikan pada proses pack carburizing sebesar 850oC, 900oC dan 950oC dengan waktu penahanan selama 2 jam. Pengerasan permukaan dilakukan dengan memanaskan kembali substrat pada suhu 8400C selama 20 menit dan di quenching pada media air. Pengujian kekerasan dilakukan dengan micro hardnes tester sesuai standar ASTM E-92 dan pengujian keausan dilakukan dengan mesin uji keausan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan barium karbonat 20% berat memberikan kekerasan permukaan tertinggi. Untuk temperatur carburizing 8500C,9000C dan 9500C dengan proses pengerasan memberikan kekerasan sebesar 699 kg/mm2,819 kg/mm2 dan 828 kg/mm2 dengan peningkatan kekerasan dibandingkan dengan raw material sebesar 559%, 655% dan 662%. Keausan spesifik terendah untuk temperatur carburizing 8500C,9000C dan 9500C berturutturut adalah 3,1341. 10-7mm2/kg, 2,6050. 10-7 mm2/kg dan 1,9611. 10-7 mm2/kg atau ketahanan terhadap keausan meningkat sebesar 599%,720% dan 908%.

The process of pack carburizing is a hardening process, which is usually applied to low carbon steel surface by using an atomic carbon diffusion method. This study aims to investigate the effects of carburizing pack process to the wear and micro hardness of carbon steel AISI 1020 using coconut crust coal and barium carbonate as media. Barium carbonate is used as activator to add carbon elements for 0, 15, 20 and 25 % (w/w). The dimension of the wear test specimens is 20mm x 30mm x 3mm. The temperatures in the pack carburizing process were varied 8500C, 9000C and 9500C for two hours of holding time. Surface hardening is done by reheating the specimens at 8400C in 20 minutes, and then, they were quenched by using fresh water. The hardness test was carried out by using a micro hardness tester according to ASTM E- 92 standard and the wear test was carried out by using a wear testing machine. The result of this research shows that the addition of barium carbonate equal to 20% weight resulting the highest surface hardness value. For carburizing temperature of 8500C.9000C and 9500C through hardening treatment successively give hardness of 699 kg/mm2, 819 kg/mm2 and 828 kg/mm2 and improvement of hardness compared to raw material equal to 559%, 655% and 662% respectively. The wear test result shows that the addition of barium carbonate equal to 20% weight. The lowest spesifik wear rate of carburizing temperatur of 8500C.9000C and 9500C are 3,1341. 10-7mm2/kg, 2,6050. 10-7 mm2/kg and 1,9611. 10-7 mm2/kg or resistant ti wear increase equal to 599%,720% dan 908%.
