Analysis of beef consumption at Household level in Yogyakarta

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) Mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi konsumsi sapi di tingakat rumah tangga (2). Mengetahui apa faktor faktor tersebut ada pengaruhi yang sama di antara daerah perkotaan dan perdesaan dan antara tiga berbagai pendapatan rumah tangga.(3). Mengetahui elastisitas harga sendiri, elastisitas silang dan elastisitas pendapatan dari konsumsi sapi. Penelitiani ini menggunakan data sekundar dari SUSENAS tahun 2005. Rumah tangga yang diggunakan adalah 1985 yang terdiri 1039 rumah tangga perkotaan dan 946 rumah tangga perdesaan. Semua rumah tangga dikelompokokan menjadi rumah dengan pendapatan rendah, menengah dan tinggi. Model Tobit diggunakan dengan Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) untuk estimasi faktorfaktor yang mempengaruhi konsumsi daging sapi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa, di perkotaan dengan tingkat pendapatan rendah, pendapatan rumah tangga, pendidikan kepala keluarga, jumlah anggota keluarga dan harga daging sapi berpengaruh terhadap konsumsi daging sapi. Telur adalah barang komplementer dan daging sapi adalah barang mewah dengan permintaan elastis. Pendapatan menengah daerah perkotaan dan perdesaan, pendapatan rumah tangga, jumlah anggota keluarga, pendidikan kepala keluarga dan harga daging sapi mempengaruhi konsumsi daging sapi dengan permintaan inelastis. Daging ayam, Ikan bandeng dan tempe adalah barang substitusi sedangkan telur barang komplementari. Daging sapi adalah barang normal. Pendapatan tinggi di daerah perkotaan dan perdesaan, pendapatan rumah tangga, jumlah anggota keluarga, pendidikan kepala keluarga dan harga daging sapi mempunyai pengaruh terhadap kosnsumsi daging sapi dan ikan teri dan tofu adalah barang substitusi. Daging sapi adalah barang normal dengan permintaan inelastis.

This research concerns with the analysis of beef consumption at household level in Yogyakarta. The aims of the research were (1) Determination of the factors that influence beef consumption at households level in Yogyakarta. (2)Determination of whether these factors have different effects between urban and rural areas of Yogyakarta and among three levels of households’ income. (3) Determination of own price, cross price and income elasticities of beef consumption. The study used secondary data of National Social Economic Survey (SUSENAS) of 2005. Total number of households used was 1985 from which 1039 were urban households and 946 were rural households; both categorized into three income levels. Tobit model with Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) was used to estimate factors that influence beef consumption as the data were censored data. Generally, households’ income, education of the head of household, household size, beef price and prices of some substitute goods (Tofu, chicken, teri and bandeng fish) affected beef consumption with inelastic demand. Beef was a normal good. At urban low income level, households’ income, education of the head of household, households’ size and beef price had effect on beef consumption and eggs was a complementary good. Beef was a luxury good with elastic demand. At urban and rural medium income levels, beef consumption was affected by households’ income, household size, education of the head of household and beef price and chicken, bandeng fish and fermented soybean cake (tempe) were substitute goods while eggs were complementary goods. Beef was a normal good with inelastic demand. At urban and rural high income levels, households’ income, households’ size, education of the head of household and beef price had influence on beef consumption and teri fish and tofu were substitute goods. Beef was a normal good with inelastic demand.
