Transformasi industri terjadi pada periode tahun 1980 sampai akhir tahun 1990. Adopsi teknologi yang diikuti oleh krisis moneter muncul di Indonesia mendorong perencana ekonomi untuk membuat peralihan usaha pembangunan pada pemberdayaan usaha kecil dan menengah. Perkembangan teknologi informasi fundamental bagi suatu perusahaan untuk bertahan, berkembang, dan menghadapi persaingan. Teknologi saat ini umum digunakan Wire LAN dan teknologi Wireless LAN. Sesuai dengan perkembangannya network teknologi diperkirakan hingga 2010 sistem Wireless teknologi (Wi-fi) akan menggantikan teknologi Wire LAN. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi peralihan teknologi wire LAN ke wireless LAN pada usaha kecil dan menengah di Jakarta. Faktor-faktor yang diperkirakan akan mempengaruhi peralihan tersebut adalah regulatory and compliance value, operational value, economic value, dan architectural value Temuan penelitian ini akan dapat menunjukkan kemungkinan bahwa manajemen yang memiliki latar belakang pendidikan teknik memiliki tingkat kepuas an yang lebih tinggi dibanding dengan manajemen dengan latar belakang non teknik. Keraguan manajemen UKM akan dukungan pemerintah dalam pengembangan dan kemudahan pengadaan perangkat wireless LAN tidak diikuti dengan temuan dari aspek operational value, economic value, dan architectural value dimana manajemen menyatakan puas.

Significant industrial transformation as a result of rapid technological development took place within the decade of 1980s. In Indonesia, technological adoption was adversely challenged by economic crisis. This situation led to a massive empowerment of small and medium businesses. The implementation of information technology is a principle of the development, sustainability, and competitiveness of a business. Currently, both Wire LAN and Wireless LAN technologies are commonly utilized as the technological standard. In 2010, it is predicted that Wireless technology (Wi-fi) will replace the existing LAN. The objective of this study is to identify factors that affecting the transformation from Wire LAN to Wireless LAN in Small-Medium Enterprises in Jakarta. Factors that are predicted to affect this transformation are regulatory and compliance value, operational value, economic value, and architectural value. The finding of this study will illustrate the likelihood of decision makers with technical background to possess a higher satisfactory level of Wireless technology in comparison to those with non-technical background. Moreover, there is a doubt from SMEs towards government supports in development of Wireless technological backbone and the ease of access to its supporting devices, which are not followed by such favorable inventions from the aspect of operational, economic and architectural values whereby the SMEs management admit to be satisfied.
