The Development of small traders in Yogyakarta Province the development of small souvenir trades in two location of tourism's destination areas, Malioboro street and Prambanan Temple's resort

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan pengaruh keberadaan pariwisata terhadap perkembangan pedagang kecil/kaki lima di dua daerah tujuan wisata di wilayah propinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, yakni Jalan Malioboro dan Taman Wisata Candi Prambanan. n Pengaruh yang di bahas menekankan pada sejauh mana pariwisata memberikan manfaat kepada para pedagang kecil/kaki lima di kedua daerah tujuan wisata tersebut. Manfaat yang dimaksud adalah berkaitan dengan pendapatan, pemenuhan kebutuhan, kepemilikan , pengaturan usaha dan kesempatan kerja dan juga akan mengungkapkan kondisi nyata dari para pedagang dalam mempertahankan usahanya dengan keterbatasan kemampuan yang mereka miliki. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode purposive sampling di dalam pemilihan sample dan pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi, penyebaran kuesioner dan wawancara didukung pengumpulan data sekunder Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pariwisata membawa manfaat bagi pedagang dalam bentuk ; ]. peningkatan pendapatan dibanding dengan pendapatan sebelumya 2. keuntungan yang diperoleh mencukupi kebutuhan hidup pedagang 3. adanya aset pribadi ; 4. kemampuan untuk mengelola usaha ; 5. penyediaan kesempatan kerja Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pariwisata memberi dampak yang positif terhadap pedagang kecil di kedua lokasi penelitian walaupun belum optimal. Hal ini disebabkan karena kurangnya modal dan pengetahuan dari para pedagang dan juga kurangnya dukungan dari pemerintah dalam pengelolaan pedagang kecil/kaki lima. Untuk itu ada beberapa hal yang perlu dilakukan untuk pengelolaan pada masa yang akan dating, antara lain, mempermudah jalan bagi para pedagang dalam mendapatkan bantuan dana untuk pengembangan usaha dan mengadakan program-program latihan bagi pengembangan kemampuan dan keahlian usaha para pedagang

This study endeavours to investigate the effects of tourism on the development of small-scale souvenir traders in two tourism destination areas in Yogyakarta Province, Malioboro Street and Prambanan Temple’s Resort. The effects were examined by identifying how tourism benefits the smallscale souvenir traders. The benefits might take the form of the material well-being of the traders which includes income, daily needs fulfillment, assets ownerships, management of business and new informal jobs. This was meant to unveil the real condition of the traders to survive their business by accounting on their limited of knowledge. This research was done by doing interview to some of the small traders and by distributing questionnaires in Malioboro Street and Prambanan Temple’s Resort. This research used purposive sampling methods using certain considerations and judgment by the researcher (It is not done randomly).Data gained from the questionnaire and interview were tabulated and distributed by percentages. Besides primary data taken from the field, there were secondary data taken from literatures. The results were analyzed by using Descriptive Analysis Qualitative. The research revealed that Tourism benefits the small souvenir traders. 1. the increasing number of income of the traders compared to their income at former job ; 2. the profit gained from their business is able to fulfill their daily needs ; 3. they have provided their assets and properties based on their current business ; 4. they create their own methods in managing their business, ; 5. some of them are able to provide new job opportunity .There are also some factors affecting the development of business such as, 1.the lack of capital 2. the lack of knowledge 3. the support from local government. From this research, it can be concluded that tourism benefits the small traders, though not optimally . To make it optimal, it is suggested that local government to increases capability of the traders of preparing themselves to be more professional. There are some new programs which can be implemented in so doing, such as, to ease the accessibility to financial donor institutions, to conduct personal development programs in enhancing the capability of the traders relating to marketing.
