Kawasan Pasar Kliwon Surakarta sebagai salah satu kawasan yang memiliki aset sejarah kawasan perkampungan Arab yang perlu dilestarikan keberadaannya terutama rumah tinggal sebagai satuan terkecil dari suatu permukiman. Arsitektur rumah tinggal merupakan salah satu wujud fisik budaya yang berkembang pada suatu masa yang tidak terlepas dari unsur budaya yang dianut oleh penduduk setempat (historis), sehingga dalam hal ini perlu terus dilestarikan keberadaannya sebagai salah satu pembentuk perkembangan kota Surakarta. Salah satu upaya melestarikannya adalah dengan mengidentifikasi rumah tinggal peninggalan tersebut untuk mendapat gambaran tentang konsep keruangan arsitektur rumah tinggal pada kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon Surakarta yang spesifik dan yang membedakannya dari kampung Arab lainnya, sehingga dapat memperkaya keragaman bentuk rumah tinggal serta turut mewarnai berbagai etnis bangsa di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran secara deskriptifidiografis pada rumah tinggal Kampung Arab di Surakarta dengan mengkonfigurasikan pola-pola rumah tersebut sehingga dapat diketahui konsep keruangan yang terbentuk pada masyarakat keturunan Arab Surakarta. Sehingga teori-teori hanya dipakai sebagai background knowledge peneliti untuk mengidentifikasi dan menelaah masalah sebagai fokus dalam penelitian ini. Pendekatan yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif serta pelaksanaan survey menggunakan metode eksplorasi empirik , data diambil secara “purposive sampling” sedangkan analisis data dilakukan secara induktif dengan mengelompokkan tema pada satu unit informasi dan membawa tema tersebut ke unit informasi selanjutnya hingga tema tersebut menjadi jenuh (teknik bola salju). Sedangkan pengamatan lapangan meliputi pengamatan fisik(fisik rumah) dan pengamatan non fisik (wawancara). Pada penelitian ini terdapat tujuh unit informasi untuk mendapatkan titik jenuh pada tema-tema yang muncul. Adapun hasil penelitian tentang konsep keruangan arsitektur rumah tinggal keluarga keturunan Arab di Kecamatan Pasar Kliwon Surakarta ini adalah sebagai berikut: a) Simbol Keturunan Arab , merupakan masyarakat percampuran keturunan antara Arab dan Jawa serta kebanggaan sebagai salahsatu keturunan cucu dari Nabi Muhammad SAW dan beragama Islam, b) Harmonisasi Gender pada Ruang, terbentuknya pola arsitektur dipengaruhi oleh faktor gender (pria– wanita) dan waktu (berkala–harian), sehingga rumah dibagi dalam dua kelompok ruang yang harmoni dan kontinu yaitu ruang depan (publik) dan ruang dalam (privat), c) Ruang Privat, rumah dianggap sebagai sesuatu yang memberikan perlindungan (privasi) bagi orang rumah (wanita dan anak-anak) sehingga fungsi dari rumah ini hanya sebagai rumah tinggal, d) Urutan Ruang dilihat dari Penggunaan Aksesoris Ruang, teras dan ruang depan sebagai daerah public dalam rumah yang dapat dimasuki oleh tamu pria dan wanita dihiasi dengan jenis kaligrafi Islam, foto para Habib, serta silsilah keturunan Nabi Muhammad SAW, ruang tengah yang dibatasi oleh pintu ataupun tirai hanya dapat dimasu ki oleh tamu wanita maka dapat terlihat foto-foto keluarga .

The Area of Pasar Kliwon Surakarta is one of the areas which has historical asset of the Arabic settlement area. It needs to be preserved especially its dwelling house, as one of the smallest part of the settlement. The development of the dwelling house architecture becomes a cultural physical shape which goes along with the historical element of the people who live there. The preservation of the dwelling house will become the framer of the development in Surakarta City. One of the preservations is by specifically identifying those dwelling houses to obtain the concept of space of the Arabic village dwelling house of Pasar Kliwon Surakarta that makes it different from the other village. The purpose of the preservation is to enrich the variety of the dwelling houses and ethnic variety in Indonesia. The purpose of the research is to get a description of the dwelling house in Kampung Arab in Surakarta through descriptive-idiographic with the house pattern arrangement, in order to know the space concept shape in the Arabic society in Surakarta. The theory is only used by the researcher as the background knowledge to identify and analyze the research problems. The research used qualitative approach and the survey was carried out by the empirical exploration method. The data was taken by purposive sampling. It is analyzed inductively by grouping the topic at one information unit and brings the topic to the next unit information until it was saturated (snowball technique). Whereas the observations are include physical (house observation) and nonphysical observation (interview). The research ahs seven information units to obtain the saturation pint on the topics appeared. The result of the research are: a) The Arabic Descent Symbol is the society who has Arabic-Javanese blood and as the pride of one of the descent of Prophet Muhammad SAW with Islam as their religion, b) The Gender Harmonization on space and the shape of architecture pattern is influenced by the gender factor (male-female) and time (periodically-daily), so the houses are divided into two rooms in harmony and continuity, that is front room (public) and inside room (private), c) The Private Room is considered as something that gives a protection (privacy) to the people live in the house (woman and children) so the function of the house is only as a dwelling house, d) The Room Sequence can be seen from the use of The Room Accessories, terrace, and the front room as the public area inside the house. It can be entered by the male and female guess and decorated by the Islamic calligraphy, The Habibs’ photographs and the Descent of Muhammad Prophest SAW. The living room which is divided by a door or a curtain can only be entered by female guess and there are photograph in the room.
