Pengaruh kadar air terhadap kekuatan tarik dan kekuatan geser Interfacial serat rami yang diberi perlakuan alkali

2006 | Tesis | S2 Teknik MesinPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh perlakuan alkali dan kadar air terhadap kekuatan tarik dan kekuatan interfacial antara serat rami dan resin epoxy. Perlakuan alkali dengan konsentrasi 5 dan 10 % dilakukan dengan perlakuan pendidihan selama 1 dan 2 jam serta perlakuan tanpa pendidihan selama 2, 4, 6, dan 8 jam. Spesimen serat dan pull-out dikarakterisasi menggunakan alat uji tarik pada kondisi basah dan kering. Permukaan patah serat dan pull-out diamati menggunakan mikroskop optik. Topografi permukaan serat juga diamati menggunakan scanning electron microscope (SEM) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan pendidihan serat dalam NaOH menurunkan kekuatan tarik serat sedangkan dengan perendaman dalam 5% NaOH selama 6 jam dapat meningkatkan kekuatan tarik sebesar 30,36 %. Kekuatan geser interfacial serat yang mendapat perlakuan NaOH lebih kuat dibandingkan dengan serat untreated sedangkan kekuatan geser interfacial menurun akibat perendaman dalam aquades dan larutan 5 % NaCl.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of alkali treatment and water content on tensile and interfacial shear strengths between ramie fiber and epoxy resin. The alkali treatment of 5 and 10 % NaOH concentration has done with boiling treatment during 1 and 2 hours, and unboiling treatment during 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours. The pull-out and fiber specimens were characterized using tensile testing machine under wet and dry condition. The pull-out and fiber fracture surface were observed using optical microscope. The fiber surface topography was also observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results of experiment show that the boiling treatment on NaOH was decreases the fiber tensile strength, whereas soaking on 5 % NaOH during 6 hour can be increase tensile strength as 30,36 %. The interfacial shear strength of treated fiber better than untreated fiber, whereas interfacial shear strength decreases as a result of soaking on aquadest and 5 % NaOH.
