The tree adoption program is a form of community-based climate change mitigation that encourages public participation through financial contributions for tree planting, maintenance, and preservation as part of environmental conservation efforts. Although various tree adoption programs have developed in Indonesia, information regarding the public's Willingness to Pay (WTP), particularly among the younger generation, remains limited. This study aims to estimate the WTP value for tree adoption programs involving both endangered and non-endangered tree species, as well as to analyze the differences in WTP values between the two programs.

The study was conducted using a survey method targeting undergraduate students at Universitas Gadjah Mada. Data were collected via an online questionnaire using a single-bounded dichotomous choice contingent valuation method approach. The estimation of WTP values was performed using the Turnbull estimator, while the difference in WTP values between the two programs was analyzed using a difference test on the estimated mean WTP.

The results showed that the mean WTP of respondents for the endangered tree adoption program was IDR 91,003.70 per tree per year, whereas the mean WTP for the non-endangered tree adoption program was IDR 77,120.72 per tree per year. Descriptively, the endangered tree adoption program yielded a higher WTP value. However, the difference test indicated that this disparity was not significant at the 5% significance level. This finding suggests that respondents provide a relatively balanced appreciation for both tree adoption programs.
