Perlakuan KS 75 HN (75% dosis K?SO?
Calcareous Alfisols in Ponjong, Gunungkidul, have high Ca content and low K availability, which may inhibit plant growth. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of K?SO? and KCl fertilizers, determine the optimum potassium fertilizer rate, identify the best treatment combination, and evaluate the growth response of sweet corn to potassium fertilizer application combined with potassium humate and nanosilica. The study was conducted in a greenhouse at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with nine treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of K0 (control), KS 100 (K?SO? at 100% of the recommended rate = 150 kg ha?¹), KCl 100 (KCl at 100% of the recommended rate = 100 kg ha?¹), and combinations of potassium fertilizer with potassium humate at 12 kg ha?¹ and nanosilica at 3 kg ha?¹, namely KS 100 HN, KCl 100 HN, KS 75 HN, KCl 75 HN, KS 50 HN, and KCl 50 HN. In the combined treatments, the K?SO? and KCl rates were 100%, 75%, and 50% of their respective recommended rates. The results showed that K?SO? was more effective than KCl in increasing potassium availability in calcareous Alfisol. The KS 75 HN treatment (75% of the recommended K?SO? rate + potassium humate + nanosilica) was the best treatment, resulting in a soil pH of 7.29, a decrease from the initial pH of 7.70, and the highest available K content of 0.54 cmol(+) kg?¹, compared with the lowest value of 0.24 cmol(+) kg?¹ in the control. The KS 75 HN treatment also resulted in the highest cation exchange capacity (CEC) of 26.47 cmol(+) kg?¹, while the control had the lowest CEC of 14.60 cmol(+) kg?¹. The highest K uptake was observed in the KS 75 HN treatment, reaching 0.05 g plant?¹ in roots, 0.84 g plant?¹ in stems, and 0.54 g plant?¹ in leaves. Potassium use efficiency in this treatment was 1.45% in roots and 24.4% in stems. This treatment also improved root development and nutrient balance compared with the other treatments. The application of potassium fertilizer combined with potassium humate and nanosilica improved soil chemical properties and increased plant biomass; however, it had no significant effect on plant height, leaf number, or stem diameter.
