This study aims to understand the strategies employed by lady bikers to construct their self-image on TikTok and to analyze the practice of perceived interconnectedness between lady bikers and their followers in the process of self-image construction. This research is motivated by social perceptions that often associate the automotive world with masculinity, placing women with an interest in motorcycles in a position where they must negotiate and gain recognition for their identities. This study employs a qualitative method using a visual ethnography approach. Data were collected through observations of TikTok content and semi-structured interviews with four informants. The analysis interprets visual elements, self-presentation strategies, the use of platform features, and interactions between creators and audiences. The study draws on Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical theory, Bernie Hogan’s theory of self-presentation, and Crystal Abidin’s concept of microcelebrity. The findings indicate that lady bikers construct their self-image through trend exploration, visual aesthetics, clothing styles, the use of automotive attributes, consistent content production, and video editing. The use of popular trends, sounds, hashtags, and TikTok features also supports content visibility and expands audience reach. Furthermore, perceived interconnectedness is established through responses to comments, live streaming, giveaways, and face-to-face interactions with followers. These interactions demonstrate that self-image construction occurs not only through content curated by creators but also through audience responses, engagement, and recognition. Thus, TikTok serves as a digital social space for lady bikers to present their identities, establish connections with audiences, and negotiate representations of women in an automotive world often perceived as masculine.
