This coffee intersystem communication study explores transformative agricultural communication within the coffee ecosystems of Purworejo and Semarang Regencies, Central Java, in response to environmental changes. The intersystem communication mechanism integrates the selection of various information, utterances (expressions), and understanding among the core constituents of the coffee ecosystem: the agricultural, extension, and business systems. The ultimate goal is to discover more responsible production and consumption patterns that are increasingly sensitive to contemporary challenges and highly responsive to environmental changes. The research was conducted based on the systematic classification of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) databases analyzed using NVivo 12 software to ensure rigorous and transparent data organization. Coding was applied systematically across the complexity of information, utterances, and understanding. This methodology enabled the extraction and exploration of critical themes, patterns, and visual data representations—such as conceptual maps and visual relationship matrices—mapping the dense networks within the coffee ecosystem. The findings demonstrate that interactions between systems with distinct, specialized functions shift the analytical focus from individual, isolated actors (farmers, extension agents, and business owners) to placing communication as the fundamental, centering element of the coffee ecosystem. This shift structurally transforms coffee farming from a mere industrial commodity into specialty coffee that highlights and preserves localized flavor profiles. Consequently, this serves as a reflective signal for the coffee farming system, enabling it to navigate a new vision toward a more robust and organized Geographical Indication Protection Society (Masyarakat Perlindungan Indikasi Geografis - MPIG). Grounded in the sociological systems perspective of Niklas Luhmann, this study conceptualizes coffee intersystem communication not merely as a linear message-transmission pattern, but as a dynamic communication network. This network possesses continuous self-generative potential (autopoiesis), driving social systems—such as the coffee ecosystem—to organically adapt, develop, and effectively respond to environmental changes.
