The Dieng Geothermal System is one of the high-temperature geothermal systems in Indonesia, controlled by magmatic activity and subsurface heat transfer processes. This study aims to compare the characteristics of temperature distribution produced by conduction and conduction–convection mechanisms and to identify high-temperature zones based on isotherm distributions. The modeling was conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics through three-dimensional transient simulations over a period of 1 million years under two scenarios: a conduction mechanism using Heat Transfer in Solids and a conduction-convection mechanism through the combination of Heat Transfer in Solids and Darcy’s Law. The simulation results show that both mechanisms produce relatively similar temperature distribution characteristics, with a maximum ?T ranging from 1.04 –5.46 K and a final temperature difference of approximately 0.03-0.05%. High-temperature zones based on the 250°C, 300°C, and 350°C isotherms occur at depths ranging from 3.1–4.8 km below the surface. Temporal analysis shows that the temperature distribution reaches the 250°C and 300°C isotherm configurations at approximately 746 –957 ka and 938 –946 ka, respectively, while the 350°C isotherm is not reached at most locations by the end of the 1-million-year simulation. The results indicate that thermal evolution under the model configuration is still dominated by heat diffusion from the magmatic heat source, while the addition of the convection mechanism does not produce a significant influence on the temperature distribution or the interpretation of high-temperature zones.
