Sensor
berbasis Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) menawarkan potensi
gelatin berbasis platform GMR (Giant Magnetoresistance) cip
This research is
motivated by the need for rapid, sensitive and quantifiable methods for
detecting biomolecules. Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR)-based sensors offer great
potential as a detection platform due to their high sensitivity and ability to
be integrated with electronic systems. This study aims to design a Giant
Magnetoresistance (GMR)-based gelatin quantification device by integrating
Fe?O? magnetic nanoparticles coated with oleic acid, which function as a
labelling agent. The GMR chip used is the AAL024 type from NVE Corp and is
integrated with an external neodymium permanent magnet field that serves as the
magnetic field source. The novelty of this research lies in the
detection/quantification method for gelatin based on a commercial AAL-024 GMR (Giant
Magnetoresistance) chip platform, utilising a NdFeB permanent magnet as the
source of the external bias field, which is integrated with Fe?O? nanoparticles
coated with oleic acid as labelling particles. The Fe?O? nanoparticles were
synthesised using the coprecipitation method, then coated with oleic acid,
which acts as a dispersing agent to prevent interparticle agglomeration and
improve dispersion stability in solution. Next, the particles were modified
with glutaraldehyde to enhance their ability to bind with gelatin.
Characterisation of the material using XRD revealed crystallite sizes,
calculated using the Debye-Scherrer equation, of 18.55 nm for Fe?O? and 17.21
nm for Fe?O?@oleic acid. Meanwhile, morphological characterisation results
revealed spherical particles with average sizes of 17.5 nm for Fe?O?, 15.4 nm
for Fe?O?@oleic acid, and 15.75 nm for Fe?O?@oleic acid/glutaraldehyde,
respectively. The saturation magnetisation values from the VSM testing were
47.71 emu/g (Fe?O?), 46.60 emu/gram (Fe?O?@oleic acid), and 43.60 emu/gram
(Fe?O?@oleic acid/glutaraldehyde), with a coercivity stable in the range of
98–99 Oe, confirming that the material retains its soft ferromagnetic
properties despite having undergone surface modification. The sensor performance
was evaluated by measuring the output voltage response to variations in gelatin
concentration, yielding high linearity (R² = 0.98), a sensitivity of 21.6
mV/(mg/ml), and a detection limit of 1.0068 mg/ml. Thus, the GMR-based
detection method using Fe?O?@oleic acid-glutaraldehyde as a label could
contribute to the development of tools for the detection and quantification of
gelatin.
