The Paleocene reservoir within the Waripi Formation at Field X exhibits considerable complexity attributed to variations in architectural elements, resulting in significant both vertical and lateral reservoir heterogeneity. This complexity poses a critical challenge for reservoir characterization using conventional seismic methods, primarily due to the relatively thin reservoir intervals and low impedance contrast. Consequently, this study was conducted to delineate the heterogeneity and spatial distribution of the reservoir by integrating rock physics analysis, Extended Elastic Impedance (EEI), and forward seismic modeling. Rock physics analysis based on cross-plots of acoustic impedance (AI), Vp/Vs ratio, LambdaRho, and MuRho reveals a lithological transition from shale to sand, characterized by a negative correlation between AI and the Vp/Vs ratio. The target reservoirs generally reside within zones of moderate-to-high AI and relatively low Vp/Vs ratios. The overlap clusters indicate a high degree of reservoir heterogeneity, which remains influenced by shale content. The EEI analysis identified optimum chi angles at 30 degrees, 41 degrees, and 74 degrees. EEI inversion utilizing the Colored Inversion method demonstrates that the spatial distribution of the reservoir across the target interval is dominated by shaly sand lithology. Furthermore, forward seismic modeling aligns consistently with actual seismic data. The thin-bed model with a thickness below the tuning thickness.
