Analisis molekuler berhasil mengidentifikasi empat spesies Begomovirus, yaitu Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), Tomato yellow leaf curl Kanchanaburi virus (TYLCKaV), Pepper yellow leaf curl virus (PepYLCV), dan Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV). Analisis vektor mengidentifikasi dua biotipe Bemisia tabaci, yaitu AN (Asian Native 1) dan Q MED (Mediterranean).

The family Solanaceae comprises several economically important crops, including chili pepper (Capsicum spp.), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), and tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.). These cultivated species are highly susceptible to Begomovirus infections, which cause yellow mosaic disease and result in substantial economic losses. The widespread occurrence of both viral pathogens and their insect vectors in Indonesia, particularly in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, highlights the need for a comprehensive understanding of the interactions among host plants, viruses, vectors, and environmental factors. This study aimed to investigate the diversity of Begomovirus species infecting Solanaceae crops and to identify the biotypes of the whitefly vector, Bemisia tabaci, across different altitudinal gradients (lowland and highland) using molecular approaches. Symptomatic samples of chili pepper, tomato, eggplant, and tobacco were collected from multiple cultivation areas representing different elevations and subjected to molecular analyses. The results confirmed Begomovirus infection in all target host plants, exhibiting diverse infection patterns ranging from single infections to complex mixed infections. Molecular characterization identified four Begomovirus species: Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), Tomato yellow leaf curl Kanchanaburi virus (TYLCKaV), Pepper yellow leaf curl virus (PepYLCV), and Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV). The highest infection complexity was observed in lowland tomato crops, where simultaneous infection by four virus species was detected, whereas the simplest infection pattern occurred in highland eggplant. Vector analysis revealed the presence of two B. tabaci biotypes, namely Asian Native 1 (AN) and Mediterranean (Q MED). The AN biotype was consistently detected across all elevation ranges, while the Q MED biotype was exclusively found at highland locations around 400 m above sea level. These findings provide valuable insights into the diversity of Begomovirus species, host plant associations, and vector biotype distribution, which may contribute to the development of more effective management strategies for yellow mosaic disease in Solanaceous crops.
