This study aims to examine the effect of conditional conservatism on audit fees and to test the moderating role of corporate governance in that relationship. Financial statement manipulation cases in Indonesia indicate that the reliability of financial reporting remains a challenge. At the same time, prior studies on conditional conservatism and audit fees have shown inconsistent results across institutional contexts. The research sample consisted of non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2021-2025 period, totaling 375 firm-year observations. Conditional conservatism was measured using the C-Scorebased on the Khan and Watts (2009) model, while corporate governance was measured using the governance pillar score (GPS) from Refinitiv. Data were analyzed using panel data regression with a random effects model (REM) and cluster-robust standard errors. Theresults show that conditional conservatism hasanegativeeffect on audit fees (coefficient = -0.658; p = 0.088), while the interaction between conditional conservatism and corporate governance has a positive effect (coefficient = 0.156; p = 0.093). Both effects are significant at the 10% level but fail to achieve significance at the 5% level, indicating only marginal evidence in support of both hypotheses. These findings indicate that the effect of conditional conservatism on audit fees is contextual and shaped by the institutional characteristics of the Indonesian capital market, thereby contributing to the accounting and auditing literature in context of developing countries.
