Afiliasi politik masyarakat Tionghoa terhadap Partai Demokrat dalam Pemilu 2004 di Kota Pontianak

Penelitian ini berusaha untuk mengetahui mengapa masyarakat Tionghoa di Kota Pontianak terafiliasi untuk memilih Partai Demokrat pada Pemilu 2004 yang lalu. Penelitian yang menggunakan metode gabungan antara deskriptif kuantitatif dan deskriptif kualitatif ini menemukan hal-hal sebagai berikut : Pertama, Anggota Legeslatif yang diajukan oleh Partai Demokrat di Kota Pontianak berasal dari Etnis Tionghoa, sehingga dengan diajukannya Anggota Legeslatif dari etnis Tionghoa maka masyarakat Tionghoa berharap apa yang menjadi aspirasinya akan tersalurkan dan dapat teraktualisasikan dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat dengan etnis lainnya. Harus diingat bahwa masyarakat Tionghoa di Kota Pontianak hidup dengan komunitas tersendiri, punya bahasa sendiri, punya lapangan pekerjaan sendiri dan hidup dalam satu komunitas yang homogen sehingga menjadi terkesan ekslusif. Kedua, masyarakat Tionghoa tertarik karena figure yang diajukan pada level central sangat compatible bagi masyarakat Tionghoa, selain itu juga, aspiratif, capable, serta punya track record yang relative baik dibandingkan calon yang diajukan oleh partai lainnya. Ketiga adalah ingin adanya perubahan dalam tataran kehidupan masyarakat Tionghoa. Dan Keempat adalah Isue yang diangkat terutama yang berkaitan dengan kebijakan diskriminatif. Mengingat banyaknya masyarakat Tionghoa yang memilih Partai Demokrat di Kota Pontianak pada Pemilu 2004 lalu, maka tidak salah jika masyarakat Kota Pontianak mengidentikkan Partai Demokrat di sebut dengan Partai Etnis Tionghoa. Yang menarik dari penelitian ini adalah meskipun pada Pemilu 2004 lalu masyarakat Tionghoa memilih Partai Dermokrat tetapi mereka sendiri belum yakin untuk memilih partai yang sama pada pemilu berikutnya. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah karena mereka masih ingin melihat apakah Partai Demokrat bisa berbuat sebagaimana apa yang diinginkannya. Oleh karena itu Partai Demokrat hendaknya dapat menepati janji-janji politik yang telah ditebarkannya guna tetap menjamin kepercayaan para konstituennya. Selain itu Jika Partai Demokrat ingin mendapatkan suara yang lebih besar di Kota Pontianak maka Pengurus Partai Demokrat hendaknya berusaha merubah “wajah” Partai Demokrat agar tidak terimage- kan sebagai Partai yang berbasis etnis. Melalui hasil penelitian yang dilakukan maka direkomendasikan kepada pemegang kebijakan public (policy maker) hendaknya harus mengetahui bahwa masyarakat Kota Pontianak sangat rentan dengan hal-hal yang berbau etnis. Oleh karena itu guna menghindari “pergesekan “ yang terjadi akibat persoalan etnis maka perlu dibentuk suatu forum komunikasi antar etnis yang berjalan secara intensif sehingga ketika terjadi “peristiwa politik” tidak terjadi konflik yang sangat parah dan merugikan masyarakat secara keseluruhan.

This research attempts to find out why Tionghoa Community in Pontianak City is affiliated to vote the Democratic Party at the Election of 2004. The research applying the combination of quantitative- and qualitative-descriptive methods find the following facts: First, the members of Local People’s Representative Council proposed by the Democratic Party of Pontianak City are from Tionghoa Ethnic. This fact really encourages Tionghoa community to hope greatly that whatever its aspirations are will be articulated and actualized in the society life in any relations to other ethnics. We have to remember that Tionghoa community usually live together with the exclusive community, have an exclusive language, have the exclusive fields of employment, and live in the homogenous community so that it is known very exclusive. Second, Tionghoa community is very interested to the party because a figure proposed at the central level is very compatible with the interest of Tionghoa community, notices its aspirations, capable, and has a relative good track record rather than candidates proposed by other parties. Third, there is an increasing hope of changes at the level of society life of Tionghoa ethnic. And forth, the issues it articulated largely related to the discriminative policies. Based on the fact that Tionghoa community largely voted the Democratic Party at the Election of 2004, it is clear enough that the communities of Pontianak City identify the Party as what so called Tionghoa Ethnic Party. An interesting fact of this research is that although at the Election of 2004 Tionghoa community tend to vote the Democratic Party, it do not believe to vote the same party at the next election. One of the causes is that it still want to know further whether or not the party will be able to perform professionally as they want. Therefore, the party should be able to meet its political promises given to the community for assuring the trust of its constituents. In addition, if it wants to get larger voters in Pontianak City, the board of the party should attempt to “make up the face” so that it will not be imagined as an ethnic-based party. Based on the result of the research, it is recommended to the public policy makers that they should know the fact that those communities of Pontianak City really susceptible to any ethnical issues. Therefore, in avoiding the clashes often occured as the result of ethnic problems, it is necessary to immediately establish a kind of communication forum among ethnics that can work intensively. So if the “political events” occur, the conflict that is extremely acute and disadvantageous for the overall society will not arise.
