Sistem Informasi Akademik Berbasis Web merupakan perpaduan database management system, sistem informasi dan aplikasi web. Aplikasi web database dibangun berdasar model arsitektur three-tier. Bagian dasar dari aplikasi ini adalah database tier, terdiri dari database management sistem (DBMS) yang mengatur basis data berupa membuat data pemakai, menghapus, memodifikasi dan query. Di atas database tier adalah middle tier yang berisi aplikasi logika dan mengkomunikasikan data diantara dua tier yang lain. Paling atas adalah client tier, biasanya web browser yang berperan dalam aplikasi ini. Web meliputi tiga hal utama yang masing-masingnya mempunyai standar yang berbeda yaitu: Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) dan protokol jaringan TCP/IP. PHP (PHP Hypertext Processor) adalah bahasa scripting yang menyatu dengan tag-tag HTML, yang dieksekusi di server (server side) dan digunakan untuk membuat halaman web lebih dinamis. Sistem Informasi Akademik berbasis web ini dirancang dan diimplementasikan untuk memberi kemudahan dalam pengelolaan akademik di Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga antara lain membuat jadwal kuliah, mengisi kartu rencana studi, memberi penilaian, membuat kartu hasil studi dan membuat laporan statistik.

Web based Academic Information System represent the integration of database management system, information system and web application. Web database application built around three-tier architecture. At the base of application is the database tier, consisting of the database management system (DBMS) that manages the database containing the data users create, delete, modify and query. Built on top of the database tier is the complex middle tier, which contains most of the application logic and communicates data between the other tiers. On top is the client tier, usually use web browser for this application. The Web covers three major, distinct standards and the tools based on these standards: the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP) and TCP/IP networking protocol suite. PHP ( PHP Hypertext Processor) is language scripting which is one by HTML tags, executed in server side and used to make the web dynamically. This web based academic information system is designed and implemented to give the amenity in academic management in Science and Technology Faculty of Sunan Kalijaga Islamic State University for example making the tutorial schedule, filling card of tutorial plan, assessment, making card of study report and statistic report.
