Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology based on bioceramics, particularly hydroxyapatite (HA), presents a promising solution for the fabrication of bone implants. However, challenges remain regarding the solidification process and structural stability of printed constructs. The Direct Ink Writing (DIW) method, which utilizes slurry-based materials, offers high flexibility in material selection. Nonetheless, its solidification process still requires further development. One innovative approach to enhance this process is ultraviolet (UV) curing, which can accelerate solidification and improve printing accuracy. This study aims to develop a slurry-based 3D printing system using the DIW technique integrated with UV curing technology. The objective is to optimize the printing parameters for producing bone scaffolds with higher precision and efficiency. This system is expected to enhance production efficiency, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties of HA-based scaffolds. The optimal 3D printing parameters identified include a UV light-to-material distance of 10 mm and a print speed of 1 mm/s. The optimal curing depth was found to be 8.029 mm. The maximum curing process for stationary UV light occurred at 0.299 seconds, after which (at 0.3 seconds) the curing profile of the printed product began to change. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) observations revealed a maximum curing depth of 1,272 ?m from the material surface. The highest and lowest hardness values obtained under optimal parameters were 61.3 HD and 57.8 HD, respectively.
The optimum product was in line and circular shape and characterisation using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and energy dispersive X-ray. The results indicate that the optimum parameters of nozzle diameter, print speed, layer height, and nozzle distance are 2.2 mm, 32.52 mm, 1.2 mm, and 0.5 mm, with an error dimension of 3.08%. The morphology of the printed PORA3/HA composite is spherical, porous for HA and solid for PORA3, with compositions of C, O, and Ca found, while the HA and ?PO?_4^(3-) the spectrum was confirmed. Thus, 3DP DIW light UV curing is recommended for use due to its dimensional accuracy in the printed product.
