The growing complexity of industrial manufacturing and increasing international competition have accelerated the adoption of additive manufacturing techniques such as Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) for producing polymer components, particularly those made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). Despite its flexibility and efficiency, FDM is limited by low mechanical strength, dimensional inaccuracies, and restricted production volumes, particularly for large or continuous  parts. Rotary Friction Welding (RFW) offers a potential solution for joining 3Dprinted ABS components to overcome these limitations, and this study investigates the effect of forge time on the tensile strength of RFW-Joints on FDM-ABS specimens.

The research was conducted using an FDM 3D printer to fabricate test specimens, a CNC TU-2A machine to perform the rotary friction welding process, and a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) to evaluate tensile strength. ABS filaments were used to produce both RFW specimens and standard specimens as a comparative baseline. RFW specimens were welded under four forge time variations (15 seconds, 20 seconds, 25 seconds, and 30 seconds), with five specimens tested on each variation to ensure consistency of results. The results revealed measurable differences in average tensile strength between the FDM and standard specimens across all forge time variations tested. Specifically, tensile strength decreased progressively with increasing forge time, recording values of 14.04 MPa, 12.40 MPa, 12.03 MPa, and 10.73 MPa at forge durations of 15, 20, 25, and 30 seconds, respectively.
